Speaker 1

Hi, thanks for joining us today. It's Nora, nora, how are you?

Speaker 2

I'm good.

Speaker 1

How are you? It's nice to see you. I feel like, with all the holiday hoopla, we haven't really had a chance to catch up. Indeed, what's new, what's new? I think I'm doing the same thing, you are, and the same thing. Everybody else is just kind of scrambling, but we've had a good week. We did, I had a great week, you had a great week. I had a great weekend. I had a really lovely girls thing. Oh, that's right. Yeah, we did so. We're recording that. This is out after Thanksgiving, but this was prior to that. My mom organized a really lovely ladies overnight for myself and Rose and my sister and her daughters, my sister-in-law and her daughter. We went downtown, we had lunch at American Girl for the little girlies, and then we stayed overnight at the Drake and it was the downtown Michigan Avenue light parade. That was my sign language. Oh, that's great. You might have thought that was Itsy Bitsy Spider, but that was. Or playing the piano.

Speaker 2

Playing the piano With the clowns, yes, yes.

Speaker 1

And so we could see the parade from our hotel room. Oh, you could, and it was amazing. And then the next day we went shopping and had breakfast and just some great girly time. Is that a family tradition or was that just kind of out on a whim? No, but it could be, it should be, it should be. It was just nice to chat with my nieces and my sister, sister-in-law, my mom and see the girls hang out together and it's kind of nice when you're removed too, so that you don't have all those other distractions.

Speaker 1

You could just like hang out and be immersed in all that.

Speaker 1

Yes, and it was funny because I brought my laptop so I could edit the podcast. And you know like when you're in a hotel room with kids it's darker and it's different houses. And Rose was a little bit. She was like, can we turn a light on? I was like my laptop will be your nightlight Way to go, so I had my AirPods in and I did the podcast. It's like a work trip it was. Should I expense it? Yeah, absolutely. Speaking of trips, my boy jumped on a plane yesterday.

Speaker 2

I love this story so much, out of nowhere.

Speaker 1

Our big kids were off school the whole week of Thanksgiving and then our younger kids just had half the week off. You feel like it was like daycare. Though they came home they were like no homework, no this, no that. So I had just my bigs on Monday morning and we had breakfast in town and then came home and I got a phone call from my dad asking if I wanted to put Mike on a plane in a few hours and send him out to Scottsdale for the week. I have loved that and I was kind of torn because I was like maybe we should all be together for Thanksgiving. But then I was like he's going to have a blast.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

So I said hurry up and pack your stuff, jump in the car, I'm going to drop you off at the airport in an hour and away he went. That was kind of spontaneous, awesome, like you know, for him to wake up that morning. And then he woke up in Chicago not knowing that he was going to go to sleep in Arizona. That's cool. No, yeah, so he will be gone until Saturday. I had to Amazon him a few things and I was kind of worried because I don't know if his shorts fit him. Oh gosh, yeah, that's right. He's not packing winter clothes, that's for sure. So we shall see. Oh, I love that for Mike. That's really nice.

Speaker 1

And I'm super excited about the turkey trot coming up. I'm glad that you're excited. It's going to be a little chilly, really cold, frozen turkeys. Earth's going to be cold, but you're prepared, I think. So You've got winter, I love. Before we started recording, you're like you know, I got winter pants to run in. I was like those are not a thing I knew existed. I learned something. What did you say? Those do not come up in my feed, nope, nope, those are not ads that I get. And what else have I been up to this week? I've been into soup this week. Oh, do you like soup? I do like soup. What is going on? So I do like soup? Indeed, I do. Are you making it? No, no, no, I'm like a tour de soup. What's your soup du jour? Different soups every day. Are your soups into soup? Yeah, I was asking my family. Does anybody want?

Speaker 2

to go get soup. This is why I was like.

Speaker 1

Grandpa Mike, please, can I please come to Arizona, get me out of here. What soup have you been trying? Well, the grapevine, our local Mediterranean restaurant, has great soup. Yaya's has good soup. I had a soup at Bonne Beef. What soups are you getting? You know, just kind of mixing it up. I don't really like a cream-based soup. Oh, okay, see, I do, everyone. I like a cream of chicken rice. That's delicious. Does somebody have a good cream chicken rice? The patio.

Speaker 2

Okay.

Speaker 1

It's really good. All right, I always picked up soup at the bagel store. Cream of chicken rice Can't stop. I love pasta fagioli, that's one of my favorites. I do like this too. Okay, you know, like lentil soup. Amy's has a really good lentil soup, the frozen, no, it's in a can. Oh, can I mean I'm?

Speaker 2

not discriminating.

Speaker 1

Oh, you're not a can soup, You're a store-bought soup. Well, I'm new to the syrup. I'm new to the syrup. I'm a big fan of a nice loaf of bread to go with it. So that kind of I think that kind of propelled this whole thing. So I got a nice French baguette and some good butter. That's a great lunch. Elle was home from school.

Speaker 2

the week before I'm in a soup.

Speaker 1

I was like, hey, do you want to get soup? That's what started it. Do you want to get soups? She's like you could bring it home. It's like all right, great, yeah, that's a good home thing.

Speaker 1

I think, I don't know how to make a soup, though. No, I don't have a good soup recipe. I did make pasta fagioli in Texas once, which was probably not the best place to make soup because it's so hot. That's okay. Yeah, I like chili. I, that's okay. Yeah, I like chili. I like to make chili. But yeah, I haven't made soup. But I'm super excited. All I can think of is soup puns. I'm really excited. Can't help it, that's okay. I mean, hold on what I.

Speaker 1

Two weeks ago for dinner. I couldn't decide what we were having and Al was like I'll make dinner. And then he was like, by the way, I couldn't decide what we were having, and Al was like I'll make dinner. And then he was like, by the way, I can't make dinner at like 4.30. So I was soups annoyed and I was like we're having. So what I did? I made grilled cheeses and I made four different soups out of a can A soup buffet and I was like everyone's going to try this. I can't believe I forgot to tell you. You just pulled four random cans of soup out of your pantry. Yes, we had lentil, chicken, noodle, tomato, or maybe it was just three. I thought there was one more, and so was it like the first person that came to the dinner table got to pick their dish Everybody.

Speaker 1

It was a dish nightmare. There were so many dishes. She had 16 bowls. Yes or no? Yeah, no, yeah.

Speaker 1

Four cakes, yeah, 18 bowls. Okay, I guess you're featuring. So, yeah, everybody tried them. So everyone had a grilled cheese and three different soups. And then you know what I did that night? Nora Dishes, hello Fresh. That was my rock bottom. That's why I started doing HelloFresh. It's just like we cannot have grilled cheese soup buffet. I don't know if I have that many bowls. It's a real hodgepodge.

Speaker 1

I didn't steal like margarita would not approve of what my table looked like, did you? It was like bozo buckets, did you? Just poured a little bit of soup in each one, because I would imagine a can of soup doesn't fill up that much of a bowl, right? Well, I knew they weren't gonna eat most of it, so it was very small. You know what you should do in situations like that Order out a pizza. Yeah, I was so determined. I was like no, it wasn't in my mind that we were.

Word of the Year Discussions

Speaker 1

So then Al sat down for dinner and he was like what are all these? I was like this is soup, we're all going to try the soup. And I was like we're going to have grilled cheeses. I was like we can't just have grilled cheese. So I made tater tots and all of a sudden, and the next day he's like no, no, I got this, I will make some. I was like we're going out to eat and then I ordered HelloFresh. That was my rock bottom. Okay, I can't believe we were both on a little soup thing On a soup train On a soup train Switching gears. 100%, yes, okay. Do you know what the word of the year is? Oh, it's manifest. No, oh, man, different year, different channel, or what dictionary? Different source. I thought it was manifest. I don't know what is your word of the year? Demure?

Speaker 2

Oh, what was your?

Speaker 1

source for that? Because I feel like I saw manifest the Today Show. Okay, what was your source for that? Because I feel like I saw Manifest the Today Show. Okay, I think mine was in a dictionary, let's see, because isn't that? I feel like we talked about this last year where I'm like how can more than one place claim a word of the year? Can I ask a question, please? Kind of embarrassed to ask it, I don't know what Manifest means.

Speaker 1

It means to make something happen, like people will be like I'm going to manifest winning the lottery. Or I'm going to manifest like I manifested this part in it I hear actors and actresses talk about it a lot where it's like I always wanted to be in a Sondheim musical, so I just manifested it and I kept saying and I was throwing out into the universe that I wanted it to happen, and then it did. Oh, like the power of positive thinking, kind of yeah, or could it be negative? I guess so. Or you could have a ship's manifest, which is a list of people on the ship, which is probably not what Eric— yeah, so here we go. This is demure, manifest and shitification, what. Those are all the words of the year.

Speaker 2

Wait, can we?

Speaker 1

talk about the third one on the podcast. I don't know. Okay, so blackification, this is wait. But look at, that's the word. I don't. I've never heard that word, but I kind of like it.

Speaker 2

Are you in a state of it?

Speaker 1

Well, we're going to find out, so you're going to have to do some editing.

Speaker 2

I'm so sorry about this.

Speaker 1

That's okay. All three are words of the year. Oh, right here. So dictionarycom says that demure is the word of the year. Oh, the gradual deterioration of services. Oh, it was coined by a British-Canadian journalist in 2022 to describe what the dictionary defines as the gradual deterioration of a service or product Brought about by a reduction in the quality of service provided. So the Cambridge Dictionary said manifest is the word of the year. Okay, and then the I don't know how to pronounce this word the Macquarie Dictionary word is inshutification, and so is the Australian Dictionary word of the year.

Speaker 1

Oh, it was a new word from 2022. Well, where did my information?

Speaker 2

Yours is from dictionarycom.

Speaker 1

So we're both right. Okay, so it's words of the year. I guess I kind of like the third one. I kind of like that too. Can we say it On the podcast? I mean, if it's in a dictionary, I think so we could say it.

Speaker 2

I don't think it's a bad word.

Speaker 1

I mean, I wouldn't use it as a curse word, I don't think. Would like the way I do laundry be in a constant state of insidification. I would say that my grilled cheese and soup dinner was the insidification of our family meals.

Speaker 2

The gradual deterioration, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1

Was the rock bottom yeah okay, that's funny. I might start using that. I think we should try. Okay, you know, what else I tried and I think you might have forgotten is putting deodorant on at night, because I put mine on in the morning. Right, well, that's when I actually put yeah, you didn't forget to put deodorant on. You smell great.

Speaker 2

Thank you.

Speaker 1

But I've only done it. Full disclosure, two days, Okay, Okay, and it's weird, it's, I will say normally when I put I don't use a very fragrant deodorant, I use Dove, it's like sheer cool or something, and when I put it on in the morning I don't notice it smelling very strongly. But when I've put it on at night I'm like wow, this has a fragrance to it and I've never really noticed how it smells until I've put it on at night the past two nights. But then do you put it on in the morning too. No, I haven't. Were you nervous? Yeah, I'm nervous right now that I'm. But what's the weirdest part about it is like the first day I was in the shower and then I was like, should I not wash my armpits?

Speaker 1

I had a real moment in the shower of, because I use this like silicone, like scrubby brush, and I was like, well, should I not scrubby brush my armpits Because I don't want to scrub off the deodorant. So I gave him a little quick scrub yesterday, but then today I did it normal. I did my normal shower procedures, so we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 1

And you're good so far so good, okay good, two hours in, I'm feeling fresh, all right. Well, can I bring up one thing Because we've talked about? I know we've been talking for a while. One of our loyal listeners, laura Nolan, reached out to me a while ago about our astronauts in space. I feel like they're ours.

Speaker 1

They are, they're worried about Sunita Williams because she's lost so much weight. When you're in space you have to eat more calories because of all the gravity and all the urine spacing, and that she does not look good, and NASA is really working with her to make sure she's staying healthy and stops losing so much weight. Is she trying to lose weight? No, this is not like the astronaut's version of Osempic. No, oh for Orbit. Yes, orbit's epic.

Speaker 2

Wait, so she's not eating as much. Thank you to Laura.

Speaker 1

I don't know if she just can't, she's not hungry. Well, I would kind of I mean, I don't know Like if I'm nervous or have a lot of my mind.

Speaker 2

I don't always eat a bunch, do you?

Speaker 1

eat a lot. I eat, I'll eat a lot you do. It depends. Sometimes I feel like I have a knot in my stomach. Yeah, I don't need anything. Well, thank you Laura, I know, I just I hope she's okay Same.

Speaker 2

I don't know if Sunita's a listener.

Speaker 1

I don't know if she can get podcasts in space, but wouldn't that be amazing To hear us in space? We might be a good distraction. Yeah, maybe not when we're talking about her being stuck in space. Don't Listen to those episodes, no all the other ones.

Speaker 1

Well, before we launch into our topic, let's check in with our sponsor. Let's do it. Oh hey, Nora, oh hi, how are you? I'm good. Tis the season to be thankful, it sure is. I love this time of year and you know where you can get some deals to really be thankful for, where.

Speaker 1

Mike Haggerty, buick, gmc, gosh, nora, I know I would be thankful if I could find a car that had an infinity roof. I have just the car for you, really, yes, have you checked out the 2024 GMC Hummer EV? No, I haven't. But I'm real particular in what features I want in my car. Tell me more. Well, I would really like a car with the trademark super Cruise feature. Oh my goodness.

Grateful Moments and New Opportunities

Speaker 1

Driver assistance technology offering hands-free driving for compatible roads, including a three-year Super Cruise subscription. This is the car for you. And it crab walks. But wait, does it drive diagonally? Sure does. Bingo Drives diagonal to boot. What? Okay, but how much available torque? That's going to blow your mind, because I have a very specific number in mind that's going to blow your mind straight through the infinity roof 11,500 pounds of available torque. That's exactly what I was looking for. Well then, head on down to 93rd and Cicero, or check them out on haggardycarscom. Thank you, nora, for telling me about the car of my dreams, and just tell them that Nora sent you Will do. And now back to the show. Okay, well, we know we're a couple of days after Thanksgiving, but we always like to take time out of our podcast to say what we're thankful for. Well and like tis the season of thankfulness.

Speaker 1

Tis the season, indeed, we have the whole rest of the month to do Christmas. Yes, you know what I'm thankful for. I'm thankful for the ages my kids are right now. I'm really liking like they still drive me insane, like for certain things, but I like, I like having like the conversations I'm having with my older kids are kind of like like just talking like about things. You gave me this like look of like terror, but I think I'm liking chatting with them, like if I can get them in the car, and like my teenagers, even my 10 year-year-old like it's been fun. I agree, I really like the ages. We're at similar age ages. We're similar. But at dinner one night my older kids said that we are a divided family. I know, because we have two and two, but I wrote down that I'm thankful that my kids are friends with each other. Yes, because my two oldest spend a lot of time like quality time together, and then my two youngest they have a sleepover every night and they don't share a room, so it's cute. Yeah, I'm thankful for that too. I'm hopeful that that continues, because it's nice to see that same. This is a bit of a selfish one, but I'm really thankful for my new word games.

Speaker 1

What are your new word games? Well, I've been playing them for a while, but the whole New York Times games app, connections and Strands, and then I just really do they make me very Because you kind of check out and it's like a reset, right. Yeah. And I've been playing less Octurtle and Quartle. I still do Wordle, but I'm not doing the Shakespeare one anymore. I'm really loving connections and strands. And how long does it take you to do those? Well, I try to do them as fast as possible. I try to get them all three done in 10 minutes, just like in your head. Yeah, I'm like I like it to be a little 10 minute break.

Speaker 1

That's a great 10 minute break. I know it's good.

Speaker 2

And.

Speaker 1

I don't really worry, like, if I get them wrong, I'm like well, whatever I've decided, I'm not very good at them At the word games, yeah. But I give it my best go, but I am thankful for them. Yeah, and I am so thankful. I've realized in these cold, wintry fall months how thankful I am for the quiet mornings mornings, because it's still dark when I wake up. Are you still waking up at three-four, oh my gosh.

Speaker 1

I'm still waking up ridiculously early, but I just love that calm, quiet and we're past the phase where there's toddlers waking up super early. I just have that time to get ready for the day, as much as I do it the night before. It's like that safe, quiet time that nobody else is up, that I love See. I get that at night, I guess, no matter where you get it. Yeah, that safe, quiet time that nobody else is up, that I love see.

Speaker 2

I get that at night, I guess, no matter where you get it.

Speaker 1

Yeah, that quiet moments, I love that, those moments of calm and light and when you can kind of exhale yeah I'm also thankful that my eighth grader is almost done with grammar school.

Speaker 1

Yes, I remember that feeling two years ago really glad, glad, yeah, he's almost done. Like I was thinking how close Christmas is and it hit me that he's so close. That was us with my sophomore. It was just it was time to turn the page, a fresh chapter. So many better things are ahead for him and I'm like, yeah, and high school is so fun, it's going to be akin. I'm so thankful, I'm excited for him too. School is so fun, it's going to be akin. I'm so thankful, I'm excited for him too. This was sort of a random one, but I finally found a good new taco spot this year. Oh, you brought me to. Oh, yeah, but you ordered a taco bowl. So we got to go back to the new taco bowl.

Speaker 1

Family likes it and it's close and it's casual and it reminds me of Scottsdale, not like the vibe, but yeah, it's so good. And that has been such a perk, because sometimes I go order my two tacos and a Diet Coke and bring a book. I almost went there yesterday actually.

Speaker 2

You did.

Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah. But then I was like, oh, I don't know if it's like a by yourself kind of place I go by myself all the time Because I have my laptop and I want to get some work done. It work done, and it was. It's the perfect place, is it? Okay? Great, they bring you a little basket of chips and a couple salsas and oh, yay, that'll be my new hide from the cleaning ladies place. Then, great, tell me when you're oh, no, you want to go, yeah, yeah, we're done, okay, so we'll talk, okay. I'm also thankful I have a new theater opportunity that I'm stepping into in the winter time and I'm really grateful for that, because it came about by my really good friend, marianne, who suggested me and likes me and respects my work enough to recommend me for this job, and I'm really excited. Well, they're lucky to have you. Well, that's very kind.

Speaker 1

You've done incredible things with every theater program you've worked for You're very sweet, I'm excited. And I'm excited to say that I'm going to be working in Fenwick. No, no, can you say the play? Oh, legally Blonde. Oh, yes, that's right, and I missed working with kids. I can't wait to see it and it's you know, I think when you have the like, this is what I've trained in and studied. So when you have the opportunity to work in what you're good at and what you know, it's exciting. So I'm really looking forward to it.

Speaker 1

Oh, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I am too. I put down on my list that I'm thankful that my kids are independent and that's kind of similar to the ages your kids are at, because things run like a circus some days, but most days they run like a well-oiled machine and they help. But those small moments where I'm like oh my God, you did it. Like all those years of trying to get you to do it, it's starting to click the reminders they send me and the accountability that they have.

Speaker 1

I'm like I need to be grateful for that. That's amazing, because they make me look good, that's right Like. I don't forget that's also something you have worked on with them. You've raised them to be that way, so well done you.

Speaker 2

So that's, nice that it's.

Speaker 1

It's a hang off. I am so thankful for this podcast, nora. Yay, I'm thankful for your friendship. I'm thankful for this podcast.

Speaker 1

It is my happy place and I agree, I have that on there as well. It just makes me laugh harder than anything else. I think sometimes our off-air or outtakes are exactly what I need to get me through the day, when you have somebody you can laugh so hard you cry with but also can be so transparent with. Yes, it's a gift, it is, and I don't think that most people have that right, I hope everybody can someday have that, because it's a gift yeah really, and I really am.

Speaker 2

I don't take it for granted.

Speaker 1

So thank you. I'm also thankful we've had some lovely opportunities with our podcast this year and we've had other people and I'm thankful to have close friends here in Chicago and so many close friends still in Scottsdale. That's nice. I just got an email the other day from a friend of mine who lives in. She's British. I met her in London, married an American, lives in Connecticut. She's starting a new business and I got an email about her new business and I was just so excited to hear from her. I was just like, oh my gosh, I'm so happy for you. And so now they live in Connecticut for her. Pardon me, yeah.

Speaker 1

Yay, now they live in Connecticut and it was just lovely to hear from her.

Speaker 2

That's nice, isn't it?

Speaker 1

There's nothing like old friends, right, I also have a friend who has started a business. Yes, you do, you do. I kind of feel like she's my friend, she's our friend. She texted me the other day, nora. I'm just saying she can be our friend, carly Turner with Olive Tree People. Yes, and we were lucky enough to have her on the podcast.

Speaker 1

Yes, and I honestly listened to this interview and listened to these products because they really are fantastic. We hadn't tried them, for we talked to her, right, and she was kind enough and generous enough to send us some samples and we tried the products and they worked. They worked and they're awesome and it's nice quality. It's a nice company. They do good things for you and the earth. They do, and they also.

Speaker 1

What I thought was fascinating was that and I thought it was incredible that most products we use have 70% water. That blew my mind Absolutely. And what Carly mentioned about Olive Tree People was that the water they save they use to build water wells for villages in Africa, which is amazing. So not only are our products less in water from olive tree people, but the water saved is going to help.

Speaker 1

When she said that about the water, too, I was reflecting on how much money these products cost, like when you're buying these facial and skincare products and I'm like, what, what am I paying for water? I was just so grateful that she had pointed that out and that she shared her products with us, I know, and she shared some information. So let's take a listen, let's do it, and we're here with Carly Jo Turner today to talk to us a little bit about Olive Tree People products and what they're all about. Hi, hello, welcome, hello, hello, good to see you both. Likewise, thanks for joining us. We had the privilege of trying some of your products and we loved them, yes, and we thought it would be fun to share with our listeners a little bit about Olive Tree People products and what you have and what the line's all about.

Discussion on Clean Beauty Products

Speaker 2

Yeah, I'm excited. Let's do the CliffsNotes right. So I am a special education teacher by trade. I spent many, many years in public education and really landed in the clean beauty space about five years ago after I really learned that, unfortunately, there's a lot of harmful and potentially harmful toxic ingredients in products, from beauty care products to household products and, of course, as women as a woman, I should say, using lots of different products, skincare, etc. And wanted them to be good for myself. I was drawn to Olive Tree People. I first learned about the company when I came to the US just over almost two years ago. Really, I was with another company at the time that was in the clean beauty space too. But what drew me to Olive Tree People was not only the clean ingredients used but their unique formula. So conventional skincare beauty products uses their base of water. If you look at your products, the first ingredient at a product is likely going to say water, agua. That means that 70% of that product is whatever that first ingredient is 70% 70%.

Speaker 2

That was amazing.

Speaker 1

When we had met with you earlier and you said that and I went home and looked at my. I mean, not that I doubted you, but it was interesting to go look and be like yep, yep, yep, yep. Yes, only 40% is active ingredient. That's crazy.

Speaker 2

Right, and even from there. So even from there. So, for example, like for olive tree people, we use an olive leaf elixir, which there's a. The actual ingredient is hydroxy tyrosyl, which took me lots of practice to say that it's break it down for us educators right by syllables and whatnot, but that's an olive leaf elixir. So that is the base of that 70% of our product. It's very high anti-inflammatory, high antioxidant product like ingredient in the whole world. If you Google it, it's incredible. And it comes from the olive tree. Yeah, so all of our olive groves are in Spain. So the company originated 21 years ago in Germany and from there, like I said before, just recently came to the United States about two years ago.

Speaker 1

And we have a product called IO1. We sure did, and that had benefits. I'm really excited to talk to you about it because I had a really positive, awesome experience with it. But can you describe to our listeners what it is and then I'll share my experience? Absolutely.

Speaker 2

So the IO1, so one thing to note in our products we have there's a letter and then a number. So the letter that comes before the number stands for either I internal, an internal product B body or F for face. What was the second one? B for body? So in this case the I-O-1 is an internal. The number is the number of which the product came into formulation, into creation. So the I-O-1 is the very first product that our founder created.

Speaker 2

Yes, super cool story. He was actually in his early 20s pretty ill on a lot of prescription medication, dealing with a lot of autoimmune disorders, learned about the power of the olive leaf, the olive leaf elixir in and of itself, from a couple of different connections that he made while he was living over in Europe and created this IO1. So after taking it consistently, day after day, had some incredible results, whereas now, of course, he's older, but I think it was within. It was a short amount of time off all the prescription medications and basically healed himself. And then he was like, okay, I need to create more products for more people to heal from, not only internally but then externally as well.

Speaker 1

And you saw some of the benefits I did. I will say, to start off I was a little worried because I'm a pretty picky eater and I'm kind of a coward and when you look at it you're like, oh, it's brown and I was nervous about it. But I mixed mine with orange juice and we should probably tell our listeners that it comes in a bottle with a dropper and you're to take a little pipette yeah, a little pipette, a couple pipettes before a meal or several times a day. Yeah, I had breakfast, lunch and dinner, okay, and I have eczema like behind my ears and like at the nape of my neck gone and then, I've run out.

Speaker 1

Now I was saying to Nora it's coming back and it took me a while because I used this cream for it and I hadn't been using the cream and I noticed it in my makeup bag and I was like, oh my, and there was like one of those things was like this has gotten better, and so it was amazing. I was really surprised and, like you said, how quickly it helped. It was pretty remarkable. It's incredible. Yeah, it was amazing, and you don't have to mix it in anything. I took mine straight. You're a little braver.

Speaker 2

You can take it straight. I will say that it can be bitter, right, it can be very bitter. So bitter, bitter, not bad, that's what I put and it's not like a bitters and a drink bitter, so we need to make that known I also it was I would just use.

Speaker 1

It was almost like a shot of orange juice, but I kind of also enjoyed. I hadn't had orange juice in ages so I was like no, I hadn't had orange juice in ages so I was like no, I'm kind of enjoying. It's a treat, bruce, treat Throughout the day. And my kids started drinking orange juice. They're like I'll have some orange juice. I was like look, yeah, I thought it was a nice way to start the day. It felt like you were doing something right like right off jump.

Speaker 2

Yeah, I will say too, like in the case that you just shared, nora with eczema. For me, internally, if I am not feeling under the weather or whatnot, I take the recommended dosage, which is one teaspoon a day. However, I will say that when you have other symptoms like the last few days I have felt under the weather it's been weird, strange weather out here in Colorado I have doubled and or tripled that. You can never take too much per se, but especially within that first 30 days you can double and or triple that dosage to really have that high impact and then scale it back down to one teaspoon a day.

Speaker 1

Oh, that's good to know. That is good to know. We also tried the corrective eye elixir, which I loved right, I noticed that I was touching my face a lot because my face feels, my face feels so smooth using the iOlyxer and the cream, but it didn't feel heavy and that's also an olive bake.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so all the products have that base of that hydroxyterosal. So no matter what product you are using, it has that base and that formula. So, yes, the that F64, which is that iOlyx, is, I think, one of my top favorite products. I shared that one with you, as well as the iO1, because I think they can benefit so many people. It has an ingredient called Paracrest. That's not the scientific name, I cannot pronounce the scientific name. However, that Paracrest is also in another face serum that we have two products that have gone viral since coming to the United States because it has pericrust, which acts similar to some of the effects that you might see in Botox without the neurotoxins, right. So it's like a magic eraser to like smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, really hydrating, which is then, while you put that moisturizer on top, to really lock that elixir in to help it penetrate more deeply.

Speaker 1

And that cream. It was dense but it was light. So we had samples and I was like, oh, this must be a one-use sample. And so I opened the top and I was like, oh my gosh, it looks like butter.

Speaker 1

And I was like, oh, this is going to be greasy. I was like, oh, I definitely don't need this much, but it wasn't greasy, it looks like butter, like butter. But it was very because what did you call it? You said, I said it was dense but light, and I called it thick but not heavy. Yeah, so we were both. Yeah, yes, yes it's incredible. You need like this much in my face though in the morning, when I woke up too. Oh see, I used it mostly, oh you did.

Speaker 2

I used it all day.

Speaker 1

I felt okay with a little bit of tinted sunscreen.

Speaker 2

Oh right, that's a great idea. You can use them morning or night. I use them both, to be honest, and I, especially the iLixir, have like more of a hooded eyelid and it lifted my eyelid, which is pretty incredible to see.

Speaker 1

then, like on top, oh, I just use it. So this actually leads me to one of my questions. If our listeners are interested, which everybody should be, do you consult with your customers before they buy, before they can just go to the website?

Speaker 2

Yes, yes, absolutely. That's so important. I love that's one of my favorite. If I call a job, it's like a side hustle job per se, but I love that because we have a skincare quiz that I always recommend taking first and then from there having conversations as far as like, what are your skin concerns, what are you focusing on, and then recommending either one to two products to get started, because they are so bioactive that you both have noticed that. Right, you see results very quickly and you don't need a whole skincare lineup per se. You can start incorporating a couple of products into what you currently use.

Speaker 1

Where can we go to take that skincare quiz?

Speaker 2

So on my website link and I can share that with all of you too there is it's called the Olive Brain Quiz. When you take that, as long as it shows that you are linked through me as a consultant, I also get those results so that I can review them and then circle back to say this is what I recommend. This is a promo we have.

Speaker 1

It's a great way to with the skincare quiz if you do purchase two full-size products from that there's always a free gift, full-size gift with that too, so kind of a cool way to actually try three products. Is there an age range for these products, or is it recommended for women and teenage girls?

Speaker 2

There are. So going back to that, io1, the internal that is actually approved for ages two years and up, so great for cold and flu season, as we, I know in the Midwest right heading into that. And then as far as the skincare products, that does differ. There are some products that I would recommend for like teenagers, probably like 13 and up, but not the. We have a corrective line, so of course that's more for anti-aging and maturing. Younger kids don't need anything like that.

Speaker 1

That's really nice, because I've heard stories from other people about you know their daughters just walking into Sephora and buying products that they definitely do not need. I think, as you know, my daughter's only six, but if she was wanting to get products, I would much rather talk to someone like yourself to have a consultation about. This is what your skin needs. This is what's good for you, rather than like I just spent $200 at Sephora and now I'm using chemicals.

Product Launch and Christmas Overwhelm

Speaker 2

Well, and it's nice to know that there are no chemicals and that it is not 70% water and that you can go and talk to somebody before you actually purchase it Right and I also have other ideas, too, recommendations just from learning more that I have maybe not Olive Tree People for your daughter or son, but XYZ, but all the products for Olive Tree People adhere to the European Union standards, which are actually the strictest in the whole entire world, so that's exciting to know as well. So if people want to get in touch with you, what should they do? Where can they find you? Probably the best way would be either Instagram.

Speaker 2

And what is your handle? My handle is carlysmith underscore, turner and or, like you know, emailing or like probably email carlyjoesmith19 at gmail and we'll put a link in our link tree that will send our listeners to your Instagram page, where they can find out more information. Excellent. The last plug I will say. A fun fact is we are actually launching the first of its kind skin tint. It's a no makeup makeup based in hydroxy tyrosol.

Speaker 1

Yeah, before you go, tell us a little bit more about that, because I use it right there yeah.

Speaker 2

Yeah, so it's hyaluronic acid. It has a hydroxy tyrosol base. We have 18 different shades. It's launching. Actually, we got a little early access. Mine should come tomorrow. I was hoping they were coming today to share with you both, but it launches to the public on December 3rd and it's literally the first of its kind. So very exciting. Very light coverage, but just like your skin. But better right, just a light coverage, no skincare benefit. The first, and then we're going to launch into some other makeup products in 2025. So super exciting.

Speaker 1

I'm going to look forward to that. Oh yay, so fun. Thanks for having me. Yeah for sharing these products with us and listeners check it out. They're pretty great. Thanks, thank you.

Speaker 1

Oh, my goodness, she was so fun to have on and I've ordered my IO1. Oh, you did, yes, and I'm very excited to get back on the bandwagon and I'm enjoying having my orange juice in the morning again. It's like a little shot of orange juice. It's been really nice. And it's nice because she truly is a good friend who has a lot of awesome products to share. So I felt like she guided us in the right direction, a hundred percent. So, yeah, check her out. Well, uh, do you have some highs and lows? Yes, I just want to share one more thing, thank you. Oh, yes, please. My christmas cards are finished. Pictures taken what card designed, order place, what? I haven't even taken a picture yet, but I have plans to take a picture on Sunday. You nailed it. Last year we had a nice one last year.

Speaker 2

It's fantastic, it was one of my favorites last year.

Speaker 1

Oh, thank you. Mind low though. Speaking of Christmas, I'm just not in the Christmas spirit yet. I feel overwhelmed by all these Black Friday emails and the Christmas shopping emails. I feel so overwhelmed by them. Al is out of town and he's like I'm like I cannot handle all these emails about shopping. Same, Just need to get through Thanksgiving. I cannot do it. I don't remember all these. I feel bombarded. Yeah, and I don't like it. I feel panicky, Like should I have boughten things already? It's not even December, I know, Thank you. I was like am I crazy? No, it's too much. Thank you for bringing that up. The text, the emails I'm like I don't want to shop.

Speaker 1

yet the text yes, and they're like, do it now. And then I'm like am I missing the boat? Am I going to pay double for stuff because I'm not buying it today? It today, that's in my head too. Yes, I'm trying to be present and thankful and I can't with all these emails. Stop emailing me. I have something, marley Lily I don't even know what that is, but they monogram things. I don't think I've gotten something from them in like 12 years and I get a text a day from them. Yeah, like zip it, I get Arctic. They are texting me constantly today from them. Yeah, like zip it, I get Arctic. They are texting me constantly. Yeah.

Speaker 1

So, milo, is the lunging temperatures for the turkey trot? Oh, it's chilly, I don't like to be cold. Well, you'll be running so fast. I'll get soup afterwards, thank you. Do you want me to have a soup buffet? I'll bring my own bowls. I'm light on bowls, but my high is the overnight, my girly overnight we had downtown. It was so fun. Yeah, that should be your high. My high was that my cards are ordered. Remember last year?

Speaker 1

It was your low for like five weeks in a row.

Speaker 2

I know, I learn.

Christmas Card Advice

Speaker 1

I don't have them. I don't have them. I'm happy for you this year because I know that's something you really care about. Yes, and I'm happy for you that you're happy with it. But I do want to share something one of my friends said to me the other night. We were talking about Christmas cards and she said to the group do you know what happens if you don't send out Christmas cards? Oh, nothing, nothing happens. So if you are in the school of thought where you are not going to do Christmas cards this year, so if you are in the school of thought where you are not going to do Christmas cards this year, or it's overwhelming and you change your mind and plot twist, word on the street is nothing happens if you skip it. That is true. That's really good advice, all right. Well, that's all I got this week. Well, everybody, get ready for the holidays.

Speaker 1

Sally, 4th right Sally 4th and we'll see you next week. All right, bye.
