Follow us wherever you get your podcasts as we check out new local spots, interview all sorts of interesting people, and catch up with each other! It’s like inviting two friends over to visit and catch up with without all the hassle of getting ready for company. Leave the entertaining to us and be sure to tune in for a new episode each Monday.
Two Noras and a Mic
Linens and towels and sheets...Oh My!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You know those conversations that start with a normal life update and somehow end with you rethinking your entire home setup? That’s where we land today, starting with Fourth of July traditions and the kind of small-town parade day that leaves you both exhausted and happy.
Then we take a sharp turn into curiosity bait: the naked bike ride in downtown Chicago (go as bare as you dare), a blind taste test of a cinnamon bun Oreo, and a hit of pure nostalgia when we scroll through retired 90s candy. If you grew up on Butterfinger BB’s, Lifesaver Holes, String Thing, and peak convenience store snacks, this one will pull you right back. We also react to the internet’s most questionable food inventions, from Pringles chip-flavored hot dog buns sold one bun per can to over-the-top stadium food that makes us beg for plain hot dogs and popcorn.
The heart of the conversation is linens: bed sheets, top sheets, duvet covers, fitted sheet folding, towel quality, bath sheets, terry cloth robes, cloth napkins, and linen clothing that wrinkles if you look at it wrong. We trade practical tips, pet peeves, and the little household habits that quietly shape your day, plus a quick detour into luxury bedding economics (yes, we found sheets that cost five figures and a mattress that costs as much as a house).
If you laughed, learned, or felt personally attacked by the top-sheet debate, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review. Are you team top sheet, or are you with Gen Z?
Right on the corner, right on the price! Head down to 93rd & Cicero & tell them the Noras sent you!

Holiday Catch-Up And Family Traditions
SPEAKER_01Hi, thanks for joining us today. It's Nora. And Nora. Welcome to those of you joining us for the very first time and those of you who come on back week after week.
SPEAKER_02Welcome, welcome. Thank you for those who have come back after you indulged me in letting me talk about my vacation.
SPEAKER_03You had a lot to share.
SPEAKER_02When I was editing it, I was like, oh no, stop talking. Stop talking. Stop talking. Nope. Just kept going. But that's what a podcast is. It is talking. It's talking.
unknownIt's talking.
SPEAKER_01So as your co-host, I appreciate the talking. Okay. Because the only thing better than one Nora is out.
SPEAKER_02How about your 4th of July? It was very nice. Festive and a little soggy, but it was very nice. Very low-key, because we had obviously just got back from our vacation. So we had no grand plans. We kind of stuck to our we got ice cream and then we tailgate in the parking lot and watched the fireworks, the country flip fireworks from the hospital parking lot. And then we went to a friend's house that night, went to another friend's house the next afternoon. And then Kevin had to serve mass 4th of July evening. And then I had my parents and my brother over. But I kind of had a faux pas. I assumed my sister was busy. She's always busy. Yeah. And so did my mom and Sean. They're like, oh yeah, Erin has plans. I'm like, yeah, Erin has plans. And then I was talking to her because her power went out for three days. And I was like, I was like, oh, well, at least you're getting out tonight. She's like, no, we have no plans. And I never invited her to my house.
SPEAKER_01Did you invite her then? Yes. Did she come? No.
SPEAKER_02She's like, we have a generator. She's like, we're just kind of honking down. But I felt so bad. I was like, me, mom, Sean, Al, everyone was like, oh yeah, they have plans. We just do.
unknownRyan?
SPEAKER_02How about you?
SPEAKER_01Called 4th of July the longest day of the year. And he's right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because we get up and we do a 5K that starts at seven. And we come back and host for the parade. Oh, right. And then do lunch. Was there a theme this? Or is it just it's America? Always America. And people decorate their golf carts in different themes. And it's cute. It's like, you know, old-fashioned small town parade. That goes right by the house. So it makes sense. And then, you know, by the time we do lunch and we're down on the beach, and then we host dinner. And so Ryan Ryan did squeeze in golf though. He managed. Yeah, he did. And then got back just in time. And that storm was crazy. So they grilled a little bit early. And then after dinner, some more festivities and then fireworks.
SPEAKER_02And you know, by the time all is said and done, you're wiped. And plus being outside and in the heat, and then you're just your wet job.
SPEAKER_01This was our first year that we didn't do one thing, the six of us, all together. Because everybody kind of scattered to meet up with their own friends. And I do wish that I at least got a family picture. Oh. But like my dad said, this is just how things go this year. Yeah. Yeah. So I appreciated everybody was busy, but we were tired. Then Mike came home early for football for a clinic, and we came back. Well, not that much later, on Sunday to beat all the traffic.
SPEAKER_02And then I felt like I needed a couple days to reproof. I went to bed so early on Sunday. I missed the end of the England Mexico game. Like Al had it on in our room and I was like, good night. Mm-hmm. And then I heard I missed like the best sporting event ever to have existed in the world. I was like, it's okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, like you say, it's the most important or the best part of the games are always the last 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_02They should be 10. Those poor people running around for 90 minutes. I'm like 10. 10 is five. It'd be so exciting. You'd have the World Cup over in one day. Just have them play all the games in one day for 10
Naked Bike Rides And Barely There Plans
SPEAKER_02minutes. Speaking of sports, do you have plans on July 11th?
SPEAKER_00July 11th?
SPEAKER_01I don't think so. Okay. Well, there's a bike ride. Okay. In downtown Chicago. I love downtown. Okay, it's the naked hike, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know what? I do have plans. Go as bare as you dare, they say. Woo! Oh, that would be so uncomfortable. 14 miles, and the goal is to show how vulnerable cyclists are to cars and pollution. Oh, oh, well, yeah. But I would think that would be remarkably uncomfortable and unsanitary. And also, like, where do you put your belongings? You need a basket or a fanny bag. You need something to cover your fanny. I just, somebody else, Rebecca, who was on the podcast about the bracelets. Oh, yeah. The permanent bracelets, she was saying she would do a naked bike ride in New Orleans. It's the largest one for pride. And she and I were talking about it. I was like, that just seems so hot. And so the keys. Yes. So much sun. I mean, look at sunburned. Imagine. Well, yeah, there's just a lot of things. I would need a very big hat with like a net over it.
SPEAKER_01Well, I just wondered then, like, do you put your purse on, like a crossbody? But you accessorize really you do. Girls and you can go as berries. Girls. So you guess you could wear a swimsuit. You can wear whatever.
SPEAKER_02Oh, as berries. It's like the underpants run you invite into. Oh, right. But then I started click, click, clicking around. And August 29th in Scotland, they host naked mini golf. Oh, my. It's pirate themed this year.
SPEAKER_03But how do you go to a theme period naked?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh, Scotland. It's in August. That's really funny because it's probably the although the your Europe has had a heat wave. But oh my goodness. So an iPad and nothing else. Again, how do you bring your belongings? Oh yeah. Yeah. Where do you put your sword?
SPEAKER_03It's not my business. Anyway. That's private. Should I change the subject?
Mystery Oreo Taste Test
SPEAKER_02Quickly. Okay. I brought an Oreo for you to try. Thank you. I'm not going to tell you what the flavor is. I have not tried it. We've never tried Oreos on the podcast. No, they should be fun. It's a real first for us. I had to hide them from my children. Okay. All right. I want you to. Do you mind if I hand it to you? Are you kidding? Oh, that's what I can't. Well, I I want to I don't okay. I don't want to look at it. I yeah, well, that's why I didn't want you to take it with your own hands. Okay. Okay. I'm curious. I obviously know what the flame rates because I bought them. Okay, I'm not looking at it. Just take a bite. Oh. That's not bad. Mm-mm. It's cinnamon roll. They're amazing. Cinnamon roll. Is it?
SPEAKER_03Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02Ding ding ding ding. I haven't even seen these. You're correct. Cinnamon. And I tell you what, these are good. These are really good. These are delicious. Yeah. They've got those. Like you look, I got it. You were like so nonchalant too. You're like cinnamon roll. Speaking of cinnamon. Mike trap. Your son was at my house yesterday in our pantry. It turns out he's never had cinnamon toast crunch. He eats cinnamon toast for breakfast almost every single day. But he's never had that. Huh.
SPEAKER_03Did he like it at your house?
SPEAKER_01No. Oh. I asked him if you wanted some. Still know.
SPEAKER_03Interesting.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that he would love it.
SPEAKER_02He might. Bring these home for him. These are great. Don't we vouch here? Cinnamon band. Mm-hmm. These are delightful. These might be the best ones they've made. Oh, you think so?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02They're really good.
Retired 90s Candy Nostalgia
SPEAKER_01Well, speaking of treats and cookies and candy. Mm-hmm. Now, I came across an article of 90s candies that have been retired.
SPEAKER_02And it was so nostalgic to look at these pictures and hear- Oh, I bet that's amazing. And I wondered what you thought about some of these. And listeners too.
SPEAKER_01Take a walk down memory lane. Indulge me for a moment.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited for this. I almost wish you could show me a picture and I could guess what it was called. Butterfinger BB's? Yes. Remember those? Those were great. Those were good. They got stuck in your teeth less than like a full size. No, I don't remember this one, but the lollipop paint shop. So I remember this. I was never really into those like sugary ones. Like the pixie sticks or like if you the lickamade, like where you lick, I just fun dip. I found that to be gross. Well, yeah, it would get kind of kissed. Because it wouldn't be like the sugar would yeah, I that wasn't my jam.
SPEAKER_01I also don't remember Wonder Balls, but you're a Disney family, so I wouldn't have.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't know that either. Mm-mm. Wonderball. Wonderballs. Was there chocolate? It was it's like a kinder bueno.
SPEAKER_01It was hollow on the inside. Oh. And then so delicious. I remember these.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. The fruit snacks that tasted like pop. It had like liquid in it. It was it.
SPEAKER_01No, those were different.
SPEAKER_02No, these were almost like fruit snacks that tasted like pop and shaped in a bottle. String thing. Yes, string thing. We used to get these all the time. Is it like a fruit by the foot, but like stringy? It was fruit by the foot. Remember Twizzler pull and peels? Yes. It was the width of a pull and peel, like just one of them that was like circled on a circled on a piece of cardboard, yeah. Oh. Bubble beeper gum. Oh, yes. Yeah, that people would be like, what is this? Yeah. Text message gum.
SPEAKER_01So that was fun. And then PB Max, do you remember those? No. No?
SPEAKER_02I guess I wasn't eating a lot of candy.
SPEAKER_00I was eating EL fudge cookies and Fritos.
SPEAKER_02We were going to White Hen. Oh, yes. And Purple Cow. PB Maxx. You gotta remember. Oh, yes. I did like Lifesaver holes. Lifesaver holes. I liked those too. I liked those. Yeah, and what a smart and it was a Greek container. Mm-hmm. It was a cool container. Almost the lifesaver version of munch kits. Yes. And I it was kind of although they're probably not made with the hole in it. I would imagine there's a mold, so it's not like the hole is wasted, but oh yeah, you're probably right. You know, like I don't think the hole gets punched out, but I do not remember thumbs sucking. Oh my god, they're never had one. But I was just like, that's gross. Like, I don't why would you want to be sucking on someone else's thumb? You put it on your thumb and suck it? It looks like a suck, it's uh I think it's on a stick. Oh, sick. Yeah, no, thank you. No thank this look no, this looks inappropriate. And taste has been. Oh, I do remember those. Remember the commercials for those? I think it was like grown-up candy. You know, it wasn't like, hey, after school, getting your taste stations. It was like un unwind after a long day. A nice cup of coffee and a taste station. Nice wine.
SPEAKER_01The Hershey version, I think, of a Werthers.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02And then Starburst fruit twists. I don't really remember those. Remember those either.
SPEAKER_01But licorice? It was licorice. It was like Twizzlers, but in Starburst. Starburst.
SPEAKER_02I think that was it. But wasn't that fun? Man, that is fun. I know.
SPEAKER_01Did you have a favorite candy in the 90s?
SPEAKER_02Kit Kat. Kit Kats have Kit Katz, Crunch Bars, and then I really liked Now and Laders. Oh, you did? Yes. Green, Now and Laders. They were hard and hard. And then they'd all get stuck. Stuck in your teeth. Yeah. Yeah. I really liked the apple, the green apple, now and later.
SPEAKER_01You know what I liked that wasn't on this list? Bunch of crunch.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_01It was like a cluster of Nestle Crunch Bar.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_02That would be delicious. I know. Love a crunch bar. I love Swedish fish, I still love it. Yeah, and I still love gummy bears, too.
Pringles Buns And Stadium Food Chaos
SPEAKER_02Pringles, speaking of kind of old school brands, but still around, has come up with a new thing. Have you seen this? Oh gosh, no. Pringles, what have you done? At first I thought they were making hot dog bun-flavored potato chips, but wouldn't that just be bread? Correct. But what they're doing is making hot dog buns. They're making Pringles chip flavored hot dog buns in the canister. So it's a there's one bun in there per can. I don't know why I can't. One bun per can. One bun per can. It's a 7.5 inch hot dog bun. And it's like sour cream and onion. I did have a picture. Here we go. Pop dog buns. So, oh, they're out of stock. Sorry. But there's only one barbecue, sour cream and onion, and honey mustard. You get one bun in the can. Hello. This is not an explicit pie too. Get your minds out of the gutter. What are we doing? Yeah. So yeah. Wow. It's like, so they're potato, you know how you can get potato bread rolls?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So they're potato-based buns. So I'd have to buy six of those. You would have to buy six cans of buns.
SPEAKER_03Just for that.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't seem it doesn't seem cost effective. But I would buy if I saw that, I would buy it.
SPEAKER_02Just because you're like, this is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. I was just like, oh my goodness. But then this also, in when I was reading about these, it showed me the bizarre food that they're serving at the World Cup. Oh. You know, like how we've you've showed me all the like crazy things at the sports stadiums that people eat. Nora. What is why can't we just have like hot dogs hamburgers and chicken fingers? And some popcorn. Right.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02What have they got? I wrote down some of the craziest ones. In Miami, they're doing hash browns and caviar for $75. No. No. There's nothing wrong with that hash brown without the caviar. But then I don't know. If you were going to watch a soccer, you watch a lot of soccer. Yes. Have you ever been like, mmm, hash browns? No. That's what I that's how I like after a long night. I think, ooh, hash browns. And then we might be like, ooh, I wish I had some caviar. Like basically missing some. These fried potatoes. No. No. Okay. The next one, Kansas City. I was like, oh, short rib pastrami on a pretzel bun. That seems fine. However, short rib, hold on. It's gigantic. Oh, disgusting. That's like a hunk of short rib. It's probably five inches of short rib. That's just one big old hunk of short rib. Yeah. Yeah. And I don't, I don't understand how that works. This is the one I the one I And also I would never want to bite into a short rib. I feel like you have to like, it's tender. You need to use a fork, correct. This is the one that I would most likely eat would be this, which still doesn't look good. Is that a hot dog? It's called the burrito dog. It's in San Francisco. It's a grilled hot dog wrapped in a tortilla with beef beer, refried beans, rice, salse, and something else. I take that, no dog. I would say may I have that without a hot dog. Yes. I like hot dogs and I like burritos. But I think if somebody was like gunned to my head, eat one of these. What's it called? A hot rito? Bay Rito dog. Which is clever. But then Seattle. They took a hot dog. That's not sour cream, Nora. That's whipped cream. Oh, sickening. It's whipped cream, cheese, and grilled onions. No, no, those don't belong together. No whipped cream on a hot dog. Also, whipped cream needs to be cold. So if you put it on a hot dog, it's just gonna like run. Or curdle. Ugh. And onions? And onions? No. We were like, I wish I had a glass of milk and smoke it's sick. Okay, then I got one more. Okay. At first, they're like, oh, Los Angeles is doing the Twinkie cheeseburger. But then they're like, oh, it's a Texas Twinkie. And a Texas Twinkie, do you know what that is? I don't want to, you know, explain it if people know what it is. No, but you're our Texan. It's bacon-wrapped jalapeno stuffed with brisket and cream cheese. So it's not a Twinkie at all. It's not Twinky at all. It's a heart attack. It's just like extra everything. So it's just that. So it's it's a gigantic cheeseburger with this bacon-wrapped jalapeno with more meat. So it's meat on the outside, meat on the inside with cream cheese.
SPEAKER_01No. Get your cheeses out of here.
SPEAKER_02Get your just have a hot dog. Your dairy out of here. Oh man, that gives me a stomachache.
SPEAKER_01I know, right? Yeah.
Spice Girls Anniversary And Sleep Birth
SPEAKER_02Oh, I have something else from the 90s. Oh, gold. Wannabe the Spice Girls first single? 30 years old.
unknownOh, shoot.
SPEAKER_02That makes me feel old. Oh, right. I at first I was like, oh my God. Oh, yeah. I remember watching that video and being like, what is this? Gales. These crazy girls. I was like, is this real? But I was like, I like it. Yeah. I hope it is. Speaking of gals, how about this mom who gave birth in her sleep? What?
SPEAKER_01So, and it kind of made me think of you because she went in to delivery and said, I give birth quickly.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So they took her in. This is her third child. She was given a strong epidural. The nurse stepped out. She continued to have some pain. So she pressed the little button for more medicine. And then it put her to sleep. Uh-huh. And when the nurse walked in to check on her, she could only find one heartbeat on the monitor. And so that scared the mom. Yeah. And she sat up and she said, My stomach felt kind of funny.
SPEAKER_02And then she changed positions. And there was a baby. A baby on her bed. Was the baby crying?
SPEAKER_01So, no, the baby was on her stomach, not crying, which terrified the mom. And the nurse then picked her up and got her crying. And she was totally fine.
SPEAKER_02Oh, she just like snuck out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, crawled out. Yeah. Can you believe that?
unknownMy goodness.
SPEAKER_02Did you imagine going to sleep and waking up and realize you've delivered your baby? My sister laughed my niece out, but sleeping her baby out is. She was laughing. She like laughed. And then Bridget was born. Of course she did. You Ryan girls, man.
SPEAKER_01These babies come walking out.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's also I mean, I'm a pretty solid sleeper, but dang. She was like knocked out. I mean, that's better than no like how many, like, how much what was in that epidural? Also, like, how did the baby get out? Like all, yeah. Don't worry about him. I got this. I got this, yeah. Her body just like slipped out, I guess. Holy moly. That's crazy. I mean, that's better than like I was in labor for 36 hours and then I had, whoa, boy. That would be where was her husband? Asleep in the room.
SPEAKER_00Of course he was.
SPEAKER_02He had a long day. It's been really hard on him.
A Quick Sponsor Break
SPEAKER_02Should we check in with our sponsor? Do it. Nora, have you heard about the Buick S-U-V sale? S-U-V sale? I've heard of the S U V sale. Oh no, it's S Y O U V because they want you in an SUV.
SPEAKER_01Well, one thing I do know is Buick makes an incredible SUV. Mm-hmm. Or as you say it. S UV.
SPEAKER_02And right now there's fantastic deals at Mike Hagerty Buick GMC. Oh, would they have an SUV though that's going to fit my family of six? The Buick Enclave probably has just what you need. And all Buick models are 0.9% APR for 36 months, bonus cash or a C CR component. Oh wow, what a deal. And you can build these things just how you like them. Customize your own Buick SUV at 93rd. It really is for you. It really is just for you. Head on down to 93rd and Cicero or check them out at haggertycars.com. I sure will. I'll see you later. And now back to the show.
Sheets Rules Gen Z Skips
SPEAKER_02I don't know why I took a sip right when I said we were gonna To want your whistle. So our topic today linens. Yes. Yes. Linens. Linens. We didn't compare notes. We did not compare notes. Here we go. I started with bed sheets. Yeah. I growing up, so my sister and I started sharing a room, and we always had matching sheets on our beds. But my mom had always would buy like character sheets. So we had like a Muppet Show or like Rainbow Bright or like and it was always really exciting to see like what our next sheets would be. What your next theme was. Yes. Did you ever pick it? Very exciting. No. I think she just put them on there.
SPEAKER_01There's nothing better than a nice cold, crisp cloth sheet on the crew.
SPEAKER_02Nora. It was delightful. That's so good. Like they have frete linens like on see. You would live in large. One time per week, they say to wash your sheets. Oofed. And that's probably what we're at.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um every two weeks.
SPEAKER_01Are you? But I three of my kids have twin beds.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01So it's easy because they can fit in there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we've got my spoiled my people and got people full-size beds.
SPEAKER_01See, we can't fit full. Well, I guess Mike has a full-size bed and John could, but we already had a twin bed that's used his. But I was surprised to read that Gen Z skips the top sheet.
SPEAKER_02This is Aiden. What? Yeah. He doesn't. He just does, he sleeps on top of the flat sheet and uses the comforter. That's right on point. Unnecessary. Extra work. Why? Yeah, I don't know. I love the sheet. I do too. I want that sheet. I like the sheet and a light blanket. I like a duvet cover. I like the fluffy topic. Yeah, to snuggle on open. Yes. And I can you wow, so it's a Gen Z. Yeah. Can you fold a fitted sheet? I'm really good at folding fitted sheets. How? It's not hard. I don't think it's that hard. You use the pockets. Oh, I should have brought one. So you I just like you use the pocket part. When I have to like introduce myself and they're like, Yeah, tell us what your special talent is. I always say, spin, I'm really good at fitted sheets. You don't say, I have a podcast? I say I have a podcast and excellent at folding fitted sheets. And then I do sometimes have to use my teeth. Your teeth? Yes. So you once you get the corners in there, I use my teeth, and then I put it flat, and then you fold it up, make a rectangle, and then smaller rectangles. Imagine that. No problem. That's I've had to ask my dentist about that.
SPEAKER_01I'm sure they would. You know what kind of sheep I do not care for? Is a jersey sheet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. T-shirt sheets were really popular when we went to college and it was like all the rage. I don't really care for those either. No, thank you. Maybe because they remind me of college. But yeah, it just feels like it feels unfresh. Yeah. Yeah. I like crisp. I do like iron your sheets.
SPEAKER_01No, my pillowcases if the ironing bores out. Oh, okay. And like if it's like on a Sunday or something and rains.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Then I'll get it. My mom is good at that though. I always think about it because there's I definitely have some sheets that are nicer than others. And I'm like, I should I should iron these. Like we have monogrammed pillowcases that I don't very nicely. Yeah, and you nice. I like if linen's monogrammed. It is a really nice thing. For our the linens I picked out for our wedding registry, I loved these. I loved them so much. And we had a quin a queen bed at the time, and then I had it cleaned when we were living in London, and they lost the duvet. They did? And I was like, what the heck? How do you found it on eBay and they paid me back? I ordered a new one. I don't know how I'm like, you took it. Yeah, that's not like a sound. You don't like lose it's not like, oh, I brought in like a necktie button slip through the thing. Like, how do you you gave it to someone else and they kept it? Yeah. They were like, this is nice. Yeah, this is right. But then when we got a king, and I kind of resisted getting a king-sized bed for a really long time because I didn't want to get new linens because I loved our duvet and our pillow shams and and now you're happy you have one. Yeah, now I'm like, ugh.
Towels Robes And Bathroom Habits
SPEAKER_01Well, I like a bed sheet crisp, I like a towel plush.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I prefer a bath sheet to a bath towel. Insane.
SPEAKER_02There's nothing worse than like a skimpy to old small towel. It's been washed 500 times. No. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm particular about bath.
SPEAKER_02I don't so our towels in our master bathroom are definitely should be replaced, but we're having our bathroom redone, so I'm kind of just waiting. Because I noticed the other day I'm like, these towels are bad news bears.
SPEAKER_01Well, my kids throw the towel down the chute after each wash if I don't catch it in time. And I remind them time and time again, you can get more than one wash. Yes. One dry.
SPEAKER_02Because you're using them when you're clean.
SPEAKER_01And if you put them back on the hook.
SPEAKER_02And if you hang them up or Yes. And then they are in this phase where they hang them over our doors. Oh, my mom hated that. Now I hate that. They do that. Like, don't put wet stuff on. No. There's hooks in our bathroom. Yeah. You have really nice bathrooms.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02You are you, you're like, I solved for this. Right. Yes. Uh I don't use a towel. I use a robe. I use a robe for my body. I have a terry cloth robe that I use when I get out of the shower. Hold after you shake your hair out. After I flip my hair back and forth. But then aren't you like cruising around in a wet robe? Well, it's terry cloth. It's a towel material robe. So then I felt my face. Your face was like bar face. So my hair's in a towel, but then I'm in a robe. Oh damp robe. Yeah, but or I'd be in a damp towel. And then you take your towel off and put your robe on. Oh no, I dry off in the robe. That's how long do you wear the robe? Oh, like five-ish, ten minutes. Oh, and then you get dressed, right? And then I get dressed. Sometimes I don't get dressed right away. Oh, because you go to your robe. Or are you in a towel? I'm in a towel. I dry off on my towel. I put my towel back on the hook where one puts a towel. Very good.
SPEAKER_01And then I grab my robe. I have a like a winter robe and a spring robe. Yeah. But you know, so I put that on, give it a little tie, dry my hair off. And then I don't know. Maybe unload the dishwasher, let my hair air dry a little bit, piddle around, waste time. I don't like to get ready in my clothes.
SPEAKER_02Oh. I'm dressed in a robe. Yes. Oh, that's interesting. See, I like to get ready in my clothes because I want to see what it's all gonna look like. Like I want to see what like the makeup of my hair looks like when I'm dressed.
SPEAKER_03Do you realize how crazy that sounds?
SPEAKER_02Your hair is like, she's getting out of the robe. It's like, today's a mohawk. And it's like I'm sitting there with like a whole palette of makeup. I haven't worn makeup in like two weeks. Yeah, I don't know why I do that. I guess I could just get ready on my robe. Well, no, because it's wet. You probably want to get out of that. But I like wearing a robe when I get to the shower because then my arms aren't out wet and my leg, like I feel like it drives me off faster. So I get out and I dry, dry, dry, dry, you and towel off like a car wash and then wrap.
SPEAKER_01And then honk the horn.
SPEAKER_02Holy moly. Should we switch to napkins?
SPEAKER_03Lordy, Lordy. I wrote down. Oh my God. That's gonna take a while to recover from.
SPEAKER_02Moving on. Okay.
Cloth Napkins Table Setting And Ironing
SPEAKER_02For my wedding, my gave me a beautiful Waterford placemat and nap cloth napkins. And at first I was, I think, I don't remember if I registered for that or not, but it was one of those things where I was like, huh, I love these so much. It was like one of those things where I'm like, I didn't know I loved nice cloth napkins. But I and she gave me those, and then she I definitely didn't register for these, and I love them. They're like beautiful like holiday napkins. And they're I I just love them to pieces. And you still have them and you have them and I and they're like a treat. They just make me happy. I love it. And I love those wedding gifts that you got that you know who they're from. Because I'm like, oh, these are from Aunt Jane. And you think, yes, I love that too. I was surprised to read that Japan doesn't use napkins. You've been to Japan. No, I haven't. Oh, because they don't use napkins. They're supposed to go. Same.
SPEAKER_01No napkins, no Noras.
SPEAKER_02What seriously? Yeah. I can't ask my uncle. He went in Japan. Yeah. Okay, ask him. Why? I because they're so neat and tiny. They wash their hands before. And then sometimes they carry their own personal handkerchiefs.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, everybody's get a little soy sauce on your chin. Use your elbow, your shoulder. Brush the soya for sure. That's so interesting. I know. I yeah, I love napkins and tablecloths and I love to set a table. Yeah, you set a beautiful table. Thank you. Even for our podcast recordings, it always looks so lovely and festive. I wish I used cloth napkins more often. And I I don't no, not that often. But I and I don't mind ironing them. But full disclosure, after now I just send them to the dry cleaner. You do? We use them mostly. Yeah. Oh, okay. I have a big old pile of paper napkins in the middle of our table.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you do?
SPEAKER_02Just because I'm like, please use a napkin instead of your shorts.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, John uses a shirt.
SPEAKER_02Kevin does that. Yeah. That's terrible. So disgusting. Especially when I set the table. You're like, I gave this a lot of nights. I'm like, I will give $20 to anyone who has their napkin on their lab right now. Guess how many times I've given out $20. Once? Zero. Zero. Zero. They got their shirts. Barf.
Linen Clothes Wrinkles And Luxury Bedding
SPEAKER_02Do you have a lot of linen clothing? I have some linen pants that I really like, but then it gets wrinkled very quickly. That's what I wrote. And it surprised me because when I was looking up, you know, the history of linens and linen itself, that said linen is a stronger material than cotton. I This was shocking to me. I read this too, and I thought, then why doesn't cotton wrinkle? But linen and look at it and it wrinkles. Linen feels so light and soft and summery. Yeah, that that threw me for a loop. I was surprised, but that was very interesting, I thought. But so not a ton, because I am conscious of like, ooh, I'm gonna have to get that dry cleaned, or I'm gonna have to iron the bejesus out of it. Yeah, I'm gonna look messy. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Or like, because if you're a lady and you're in a linen dress and you s like at a wedding, or if anything, if you sit down, then you stand up and then you have a crease across your hip bones. Oh, yeah. Right? Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, and I'm always like, uh. I would like a pair of linen pants. Linen pants are great. And I feel like when those wrinkle, they kind of wrinkle in like a cooler way than like a dress. It just they look so effortless. And like she looks crisp and clean. Well, yeah, because they what I was reading, they were saying linen is typically symbolic of fresh and pure and clean, like a feeling of that when it's used in literature in the Bible and things like that. Huh. Did you see the most expensive sheets? No. Well, I was going down a rabbit hole and then I got real distracted. Because there were sheets that were like $25,000. And then I got distracted by this bed mattress that cost $500,000. What in the world? Is it Ren sleeps for days? Like the house. It's filled, and I don't know how you're gonna deal with this. Dollar bills. Wool, cotton, and mostly horse hair. No. And they're like, oh, it's hypo, hypoallergenic. I'm horses' hair is that expensive? I was like, well, I guess if it's in a I was like, do they shave the horses out of just haircuts? I don't know. I have a yice. Seems like a weird combination. Who decided, like, let's put wool with horse hair? Well, I think like back in the day, like old times, like they would you, you know, if you had a horse and it died, you're like, well, let's use all the parts of the horse. Like, let's make use. Like, I have heard of horsehair beds like in medieval times. And, you know, of course you have, but but not in I didn't think we were still doing that. And I never knew it was a luxury. Like if someone's like, Oh, I got a horsehair mattress, I'd be like, oh no. Oh no, it does for you. Do you imagine being a say a mattress salesman who sells those? That's gotta be a tough gig. I know. Well, if then I looked on a website, like they have what the store, it's called Haston. It's a it's a Scandinavian company, but they have one in Scottsdale. Um, they don't even have a store in Chicago. They sell it at a uh like a fancy mattress store, and there's no e there's no prices on it. The luxury bed collection.
SPEAKER_01And where is it in Scottsdale?
SPEAKER_02North Scottsdale Road.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. So I was kind of you were gonna be like, I have one of those beds. No, but I know where that is. They're not all $500,000, but Jesus, that's a a house. That's a bottom. Good gracious. But they said for sheets, like you when they're like it's there, there's three things that determine how expensive sheets are the materials, the craftsmanship, and the detailing. The craftsmanship. So I guess how they're sewn together, how they're woven.
SPEAKER_01You know, usually it's good sheets is TJ Maxx.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've gotten some good sheets there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
Highs Lows And Closing
SPEAKER_01Should we launch into highs and lows? Let's do it. All right. My low is today I had one of the worst runs ever. What? With my running pal Claire and I. It was so hot and steamy.
SPEAKER_02I just felt like an old lady. You know what? It's it was cloudier this morning, but it was like it felt thick and like cloudy. We went later, the normal.
SPEAKER_01It was just it was bad.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm sorry. That's okay. How about you? I messed up my car. Poor muffin.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Did you do my trick? No, I haven't had a chance yet. I back into our driveway, into our garage, and I've been doing it for five years. No problems. And I knew one day I was gonna clip it. And yesterday was Wait, you clip that is from backing in? Mm-hmm. Yeah. I caught it on the side of the garage. Oh, yeah. Like the driver's sight wheel, like bumper. So I'm so mad at myself. I hardly hit it. I mean, because I'm not going fast. Right. Going like two miles an hour. So, but it's still like scuffed and like the bumper is out of whack. So I have a feeling it can just be like pounded back again. Scatched back together. And then I can use your nail polish remover trick, but I just have to remember to do it. I'm just mad at myself.
SPEAKER_01It's the worst. And my high is the 4th of July. It's always so nice to be with everybody.
SPEAKER_02That's so fun. Yeah. My high is I kind of forced my son Rory to do something and it went well. Was it service hours? Yes. I saw him yesterday. Oh, yes, he told me he saw you. So at the high school, they have a service hour requirement. And for sophomores and juniors, it's 15 hours, which is no small number. And at the end of the last school year, I was like, sign up to do this three-day service project and complete all of your sophomore year service hours. And knowing Rory, I was like, this would be great because he has it all done. But I knew it was going to be a challenge because it was going to be outside and he has a pretty legitimate and understandable fear of bees. He's been stung in the face by a hornet. He's been stung other times. He stepped on a dead bee, which stung him somehow. Anyway, and but I was like, oh, this would be so good to get it done. Yes. But this will this will push him out of his comfort zone. Were there bees around? Or is it just in general? So because it was all outside like farming, and they went to a forest reserve. They went to a like a city farm that grows produce for a food pantry. Oh he goes and he he liked it. Oh, great. He was like, there were so many bees. And he knew that. They warned them. They're like, there's gonna be bees, so just be careful. Is anyone allergic? And I was proud of him. He was he told the nun and the other teacher who were in charge, I'm really afraid of bees, but I'm gonna try my best to I love that. Like do it. And he was like, I just stayed really still on them, and they just flew by me. And I was like, Praise Jesus. Like this is like since second grade. Wow. I had this like fear. Were you worried? That scared me. I was so worried. Like you were gonna get a phone call. Yes. I was like had my phone close every time it rang. I was like, or if I got a text from him, I was like, oh god. And he he did it. Was it a couple of days though? So he were you worried he wasn't gonna go back after day one. And today I picked him up.
SPEAKER_00He's like, I'm all done with my service hours.
SPEAKER_02I was like, That's a flex. That's huge. It's such a flex. And he's like, he's like, it was good. Good. I liked it. He's like, I felt like I did something. It was probably meaningful too. Yes. That's a great. But you know, like those moments where you you do force your kids to do stuff, and you're like, oh, please don't let this blow up in my face. And it didn't. So I'm very happy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I'm happy for him. He doesn't have to worry about that.
SPEAKER_02Many reasons, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it's all good said. All right. Well, join us next week. You know where to find us and tell a friend. Bye. Bye.
