A tiny drink that looks like a Guinness but tastes like dessert sounds harmless, right until we’re debating whether it should be a shot, a sipper, or poured over ice cream. We start with National Ice Cream Sandwich Day (melty is best, hard cookies are risky), then jump into our Baby Guinness experiment with Kahlua and Bailey's. Along the way we take a detour through novelty shot glasses, random trivia, and the kind of small talk that somehow turns into real life.
Things get unexpectedly practical when we talk daylight saving time. The promise of “just pick one time forever” sounds great until you picture winter mornings where the sun barely shows up before work and school. We unpack why sleep experts push for consistency, why dark mornings feel so rough, and why politicians hesitate when constituents imagine sunrise creeping toward 8:00 a.m. or later in some cities.
Then it’s full pop culture whiplash: the viral trend of dunking a McDonald’s cheeseburger in Diet Coke (we have strong feelings), plus a genuinely charming palate cleanser, Denmark’s Santa convention with gift-wrapping contests and gingerbread eating. From there we settle into our main topic, cosmetics: minimalist makeup routines, tinted moisturizer with SPF, eyeliner that looks natural, lip gloss versus lipstick, and what kids learn from TikTok beauty tutorials. We also share an eye doctor-approved makeup remover recommendation, swap product memories, and talk 2026 makeup trends like butter skin, blended blush, smoky liner, and natural nails.
If you like funny everyday stories with useful tips you can actually try, hit subscribe, share the episode with a friend, and leave a quick review so more people can find us. What’s your “core four” makeup routine right now?

National Ice Cream Sandwich Day
SPEAKER_02Thanks for joining us today. It's Nora. And Nora. A very happy national ice cream sandwich day to all our listeners.
SPEAKER_00Really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I love ice cream sandwich.
SPEAKER_02I do.
SPEAKER_01I like them when they're a little melty. Yes. Well, otherwise, you could chip a tooth on those things. I don't love a cookie sandwich. Like chocolate chip cookie? Like a chip witch?
SPEAKER_02Is that what it's called? That's what I call it. I didn't know it had a name. Because I don't like if the cookie's hard.
SPEAKER_01Oh see, I've made homemade chip witches. So you you have to underbake the cookies. Mm-hmm. And then I roll it in chocolate chips. Oh, I didn't know you could roll it. You could roll it in chocolate chips, so then it's like a chocolate chip outside. It's a chipwich. You know what I would roll it in?
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_01Sprinkles. Sprinkles would be f you know what? If you had a sugar cookie and vanilla ice cream and sprinkles. Yes. Ice cream sandwich. So you I don't really prefer the chocolate cookie ones, though. They get stuck in that cookie. The chemical sandwiches? Oh, deliciousness. It's like it always gets stuck on the roof of your mouth. And then you're like, you just scrape it off with your tongue. It's like using a squeeze.
SPEAKER_02It's like the opposite of eating Captain Crunch. Correct. The roof of your mouth gets like mangled apart. Oh my goodness.
Baby Guinness Shot Tutorial
SPEAKER_01Well, I feel like I should just get to it. Well, a couple weeks ago, I brought up baby Guinness. You did? Yes. And so I didn't do it last week because we had our lovely interview with the Innabow. Let's talk about the Innumbo.
SPEAKER_02Because I had posted something on our Instagram. And one of our followers, a friend of ours, had said she can't wait to read it. She's 200th in line at her local library to get the book. No. So clearly she works out. I'll give her my so I said to her, I will give you mine. And you know what she said to me, you're already my favorite coworker, thinking it was you. Oh no. So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, I was, I was very lucky. I got to go to a spa yesterday. Got a facial and a massage. And there was a woman at the spa who had the book in her hand. Oh, she did. And I was like, I almost said something, but I was like, no, everyone's here because they want to be, they want to be alone. They want to be in the zone. But I was that makes me so happy. I got really excited to see the book. It was fun. So thank you again to Annabelle. I know. That was just delightful. Even my dad was like, she sounds like a really nice lady. I was like, she is.
SPEAKER_02She is.
SPEAKER_01I hope she comes to Chicago this year. Same Z's. Okay, so yeah, back to the matter eight. So baby Guinness. Yeah. And I had never heard of this. And it's so if you're doing the Million Beers Challenge, it does not qualify for the Million Beers Challenge. But I told my husband about it and he was pumped. He was very excited about the prospect. But this tells you how much hard alcohol I drink. I have two shot glasses. One of them has president. One in it I got for free when we went to Cape Town from our hotel. It's basically puff paint on the so Atlantic View Hotel in Cape Town. So they this was a little gift. It's looks like somebody made that at kids' club totes. But this is from 2009. Oh. So I've had it for a long time. 17 years. Yep. And then this one I treated myself to. And the Columbus Airport. It is a from it says Ohio, mother of presidents. Because we have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight presidents that were born in Ohio. And that's Can you name one? Roosevelt.
SPEAKER_02No, he was born in New York. Oh my gosh, you knew that. Wait, no, we both have a big Ohio was our state for fourth year. Oh my god, you have to do that.
SPEAKER_01I definitely know one of these. You you got it. I know you know one. Washington. George Washington? Yeah. No. He's Virginia. The other Washington.
SPEAKER_02What a stupid question. George Washington?
SPEAKER_01Hoover. No. Okay, wait, hold on. Add it. One of them starts with an H though. Hugh. Oh, actually, one, two, three, four start with H. Well, half of them. Okay, so we got William McKinley. Oh, I didn't even know him. Benjamin Harrison. Nope. Warren Harding. No way. William Taft. Oh, Taft. I knew Garfield, James Garfield. Okay. Ulysses S. Grant. Shoot, I should. That's a good one. William Henry Harrison and Rutherford B.
SPEAKER_00Hayes. Who I know is your favorite.
SPEAKER_01Goldie Buckudi. Anywho. So, but I love this show.
SPEAKER_02That's what makes me weird.
SPEAKER_01So you were just like meandering through a Hudson News. You got some magazines in a shot glass. Yes. And I was like, what is that? And I was like, never did these men who have been president of the United States of America thought they'd be on a shot glass. I want to meet the merch person who was like, great idea. Well, this is what we're going to do. So wait, for our listeners, we are pouring most of the shot glass with Kahlua. Kahlua. Is Kahua strong alcohol? It is not. Okay. No. It's pretty mild. My mom likes it. 20% alcohol by volume. So like a stronger one. It's like wine's 14, I think. It's a coffee liqueur, okay, I believe. Oh, I didn't know it was from Mexico. Yeah, see. So you do three-fourths of the shot glass with Kahlua, which is a dark brown color. And then you similarly, if you were making a black and tan with harp and Guinness, you use an upside-down spoon to kind of slow down.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm going kind of fast. So then it kind of looks like a Guinness. Oh. It did not go according to well, maybe.
SPEAKER_01Let it settle a second. Maybe we'll let it settle. Okay, pour that one out.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And I'm I don't know. Try it without the spoon. Maybe.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01Shoot. Sorry. I should have said that. Fast pourer. As okay. Anyways. It's cute, and I'm excited for you to try it. Is it a sipper or a shooter? Well, no, I I think it's a shooter. I will give you my birthplace presidents, mother of presidents glass. I don't want to take a shot of it. I want to like enjoy it. Okay. Well, you can. What did you I did it as a shot because it was in a shot glass and I'm a roll. But you you you enjoy your baby Guinness. No, no, I'm gonna shoot it. All right, here it should be. I'm not really good at shots. No, neither am I. Isn't it really good? It's really smooth. It feels good on my sore throat. Oh, hooray. It's like dessert. Yeah, it shouldn't be a shot. No, it is kind of a nice. I would like it on ice. Over ice cream. Oh, there you go. Ice cream sandwich. Oh, again, you used to make Kahloo shakes.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, Bailey's. After I finished my master's program, I was a little bit like, what do I do with myself now that I have a master's in acting? And it was holidays, not a lot of auditions, and I was making myself Bailey's milkshakes every day at like 3 30. Whoopsie. How did you stay so thin? I walked everywhere. This is ter terrific. Hmm. Well, that's delightful. Yeah. Hooray for baby games. Highly recommend that. Yeah.
Strep Throat And Solo House Reset
SPEAKER_01Speaking of last week, for those of you listening, I came down with strep throat. Oh, you did. Yeah, of all the things. And like so fast and so strong, you poor thing. Yeah, I feel badly because my daughter was complaining of a sore throat that came on fast.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, oh, you're okay, you're okay. And then I got it. And I I owed her an apology. Because I kind of wrote it off. But man, if you haven't had strep in a while, count your country lucky stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel like though any of those like kid illnesses, if adults get them, it's like worse. Yeah, because with the kids, once the you're on the antibiotics and the sore throat is gone, you're good.
SPEAKER_02And I still have this kind of ick that I didn't have when I had the sore throat. But I was I was down and out for five days.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yes, too. I'm glad you're okay. And I missed you, but Kevin McAllister, look at you. I made my family disappear. My family, my children, and my husband have gone to New York to visit my in-laws, and I was invited to go. Oh gosh, yes. But I'm starting a new job on Monday, and so I couldn't go. So we tried to make it work and we tried to figure something out, but ultimately it just wasn't in the cards for me this year. So I'm holding down the Ford at home. Cabinets look great. Thank you. I did like I polished my baseboards and washed the cabinets. I'm gonna clean the basement tonight. I'm pumped about it. I finished three episodes of Saturday Night Live that I've been holding on to since April. You know, all the important things. I dove into my 10-year-old's room today and got rid of three bags of things.
SPEAKER_00Amazing.
SPEAKER_01Unbelievable. This child I said, I think you might be a hoarder. That's your worst night, mate. Um, what's a hoarder? It's like, do you remember the lady that used to live across the street from us?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02He's like a girl that it keeps like the Tchkis.
SPEAKER_01Rose has lots of little things. Yeah. Oh boy, but that feels good to get that stuff cleaned out.
The Daylight Saving Time Debate
SPEAKER_01Did you hear that they're trying to do away with daylight savings time? Yes. I mean, I know it always kind of comes up every now and then, but the House has approved approved it, but the Sen Senate hasn't passed it. But what's the problem is What's the problem? The problem is so experts are like, it is better for you for your sleep schedule to just be on one time always. Not to affect like your sleep schedule. So then it's not like gain an hour, lose an hour. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Also, can I interrupt you for a second? Um, when you had little kids, I never dealt with it because Arizona doesn't change, but switching time zones is a headache. And I would imagine it'd be the same setup for daylight savings with your kids.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and for as an adult, if you gain an hour of sleep, that's great. But when you lose an hour, you really do feel that and it's bizarre. But the problem is without daylight savings time, the sunrise is way later. So this map went viral.
SPEAKER_02Wait, can you clear up for me and maybe our listeners as well? Are we in daylight savings right now?
SPEAKER_00No. No. We're in like standard.
SPEAKER_02Standard time. So standard time, the sun rises about five.
SPEAKER_00You would know better than me.
SPEAKER_01I don't see it rise. I see it set. I know sun sets around 8 p.m. 8.30. And it sets about 8 30 now. Yeah. So, and the reason for daylight savings time because of the winter months, they're like, well, we needed to be lighter in the mornings or else.
SPEAKER_02So we would not stay in this setup.
SPEAKER_01We would. We would be in standard time.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I don't like that.
SPEAKER_01So they would want us to stay in standard, or would it, or no, it would be daylight savings time all the time, but we would get our daylight at the end of the day. Like the longest day of the year is December 21st. Correct. On that day, the projected sunrise time for Chicago would be 8 18 a.m. Holy cow. Which means, I don't know, so the r I mean that's late. That's an understatement. So it would be like nighttime. So that's just when the sun is starting to rise at 8 18. Takes a while, you know. So you just slip a swim. You're not just like lights on. So now and then what time will it get dark? So I think that they didn't say that. I I would imagine maybe like 7 p.m.
SPEAKER_02So selfishly, because Arizona is two hours difference during this time, I would like it to go back to daylight savings so that we only have an hour.
SPEAKER_01But if we do that, then yeah, then in Arizona, their sunrise would be about 8:15. Poor Seattle, their sunrise would be like nine o'clock. In the morning? Yes. Well, it's true. That kind of trash. And who else? Oh, Louisville, Kentucky would also be 9 a.m. in Minneapolis? But then 9 a.m. Oh my god, North Dakota, 9 30. Okay.
SPEAKER_02What I don't love is there's never that timeline to put your pajamas on at 4 30 and pour a glass of wine. Correct.
SPEAKER_01Because when you do that in the winter, nobody bans an eye because it's dark. Because it's dark. And I have a hard time waking up early. And if I was waking up like at 6 a.m. and it was pitch blackout, I don't like that.
SPEAKER_00I would have a real hard time.
SPEAKER_01So why do people want this? I think people are like, oh, it's annoying to like set your clock, which I'm like, no, it's not. All of our phones do it automatically. It's fine. So it's very interesting because some of the politicians are like, let's do it. And then other polit politicians are like, I am not doing this because I am going to get so many complaints from my constituents when the sun starts rising at 8 30 in the morning. And it's a decision you can't like go back on. Right. You can be like, oh, we tried it for a year and it wasn't great. Well, so stay tuned on that. How about this?
SPEAKER_02Something else I'm not
The Diet Coke Burger Dunk Trend
SPEAKER_02a fan of. McDonald's cheeseburgers are going viral.
SPEAKER_00Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02Because these TikTokers have lost their minds. Similar to Frosty's and fries, where you dunk your fries in a frosty, people are dunking their burgers in their diet cookies. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. No. They say it's a shocking mix of hot and salty beef, which oh my God, that's how you're lead. And sweet, fizzy cold. No, it's it's sucky. It's gross.
SPEAKER_01Don't ruin your diet. Don't ruin your diet coke. Then you're gonna have like weird McDonald's cheeseburger floating. You're gonna have floaters and your Diet Coke. Gross. Take a bite, take a drink. Get an Oreo and a glass of milk or a chocolate. That you could dunk. Dunk so many other things. So many things. A dunkaroo. I do bring back the nine. A coffee and a donut. Do people dunk coffees and donuts and coffees? I think they did what they could, yeah. Okay. But I'm just trying to think of the sizing. Like, because if you're a diet, if you have a Diet Coke, do they have to cut their burger in half or are they folding it? I'm just gonna take a big old bite and then dunk a corner. You like rip it apart? No, I think you just No, but but the bites in your mouth. No, I know. But after you take like maybe your first bite is it dunked? Your first bite, and then you've got like some room to kind of finagle. Also, then if you've drank some of your taco, you don't want to dig deep. You're like your hands in your cup. Yeah, there's so many things. Could you imagine if you I don't know why you'd be on a date to McDonald's. Or a date. And you were like, I'd like, oh, be my date for a wedding. We're gonna drive an hour to the wedding. And you're like, oh my gosh, I really like this guy. He's so great. And then you're like, oh, we'll do McDonald's on the way there because it's easy. It's a road trip. And he gets and he's like, takes the lid off and starts doing a couple of easeburger in the car.
SPEAKER_02Fast.
SPEAKER_01No, no, don't do it.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_01No, bad, bad news.
SPEAKER_02But I do want to just tell you one more thing.
Denmark’s Santa Convention Tradition
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. It's really not. I just have been thinking about it. Okay. They're doing they do Christmas in July-ish in Denmark because there's a Santa convention. It's been going on since 1957. Really? Where hundreds of Santas assemble and they have like gift wrapping competitions, gingerbread eating contests. Wait, but do they have to wear the big heavy beard care?
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's important. Workshops, a bike parade. Could you just imagine all these Santas? See, that is better because in New York they did this thing called SantaCon. And it was a bar crawl. So people were dressed like Santa on a bar crawl. And it was always kind of a sad day because you were like, ooh, it's a lot of sloppy sloppy Santa's couple slutty Santa's. No, these are professionals. These are like real. So this this is a much I can get behind that Santa Con, the pub crawl Santaconum. This is the um Santa Congress assembly. Do you have to be invited or like apply? Oh, I don't know if you have to show your Kardashian. I don't know like any old Santa.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like Oak Brook Mall.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_021987 to present.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure. Yeah, because I would imagine they're not letting any old Santa in.
SPEAKER_01I don't right? I would think.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_01But then can you just imagine all the Santa's on the beach? Like beaching around. Amazing. I want to look at pictures of that. Sounds jolly. Be great, merch. Such good merch. Such good merch. We should go next year. Oh, does it I don't I'm not an official Santa. I know, but we could just go and watch, right? Oh, we'd be spectators. Spectators? Sure. You're on the nice list. Okay. If you come can't get in, you're on the naughty list.
Sponsor Break And New Car Story
SPEAKER_01Let's check in with our sponsor. Oh good to see you. I feel like I haven't seen you in ages.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh. Yesterday I was in Oakland. I got myself in quite a pickle.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you know how I feel about pickles.
SPEAKER_02And I have to tell you, I had the greatest service at my Caggerty Buick GMC. I left in a new car. Get out of town. I was in and out in a couple hours. I got all set up in a brand new 2026 Acadia. I got a chance to look at the Yukon, the UConn XL. I checked out the terrain. For a moment I thought maybe I was Hummer EV material, but they talked some sense into me. And in no time, I was locked and loaded. Were you able to get it with all the features you wanted?
SPEAKER_01They had everything available right on the lot. It was no trouble at all.
SPEAKER_02And now I'm living large in my brand new car. Oh, and it's got that new car smell. New cars well, I'm telling you, if you're in the market for a new car, head on down to 93rd and Cicero. And if you do, just tell them Nora sent you.
SPEAKER_01And now back to the show.
Cosmetics We Use And Actually Like
SPEAKER_01Our topic today, cosmetics. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Something we both use. We both and many other Americans as well. I would consider myself a minimalist when it comes to cosmetics.
SPEAKER_01Same. Yes. I have certain things. Like if I'm putting makeup on, I have I use concealer, I use a tinted moisturizer, and usually eyeliner.
SPEAKER_02No mascara?
SPEAKER_00Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_00And then blush.
SPEAKER_02That's interesting because that's the number one most purchased cosmetic.
SPEAKER_01Really? It overtook lipstick? No way. No mascara. I have mascara, but I don't wear it often.
SPEAKER_02Huh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's the one thing I'll put on. Really? If I'm going out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Lip gloss, but yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not a lipstick person. I don't think I own one lipstick. I have it, but I think, and I I hate to like blame my mom for this, but like my dance recitals when I was really young, my mom used to put so much lipstick on. Me? I do, okay. And then I was like, I hate this. I just like a gloss. I'm like a glossy. So I have drawers full of glasses. I have lip gloss and mostly just chapstick. You're a chapstick, but I used to like I do like eyeshadow. Like it is fun to kind of experiment. Like I used to do like a little smoky eye back in the day. Did you ever do a little glitter? So I had when we I was studying abroad, that's when I first discovered Sephora. Oh, like in I was in Paris, and my friend and I were like, oh my God, let's buy different color mascaras. So I bought a purple mascara. She bought blue because she was blonde and I had brown hair. That was seemed like the better fit. Or maybe someone told us. I don't know. And I thought I was very fancy with my purple mascara. And I think I had, but not like glitter like you did. They were like these little pots that were stacked. I had like a little sparkle in one of my eyeshadows, but not like what glitter. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You went all in on the glitter.
SPEAKER_02Better off being Nora Ryan than Norahity because nobody needs all that glitter.
SPEAKER_01Was it on your eyeshadows, or was it like everywhere?
SPEAKER_02So they were like little containers that you stacked. You could get them at the kiosk at the mall. So you would do your makeup and then you'd put on your eyeshadow, and then you would like highlight it. Like if it was a brown eyeshadow, you'd take like a brown glitter and like do the creases, or like a purple glitter that was big because my eyes were blue.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It was kind of a thing. Yeah, just on your eyes. And then how did that photograph? Well, you've seen my scrapbooks. Just because like the light reflection of glitter. It just as you think it really paired well with those bright blonde highlights everybody did in the front of their hair. It's like stripes. No, yeah, no. Never, never a glitter, but But I do remember the first time my mom took me to get makeup.
SPEAKER_02We went to the Bobby Brown counter. And I got this nice box and it had a sliding top. And we got my makeup done and I got all the things and a beautiful set of brushes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, they have the best brushes, Bobby.
SPEAKER_01And I thought, man, how old are you? Oh gosh, I was probably in middle school. Okay. I think I went nice. But I never went like that. I still use Bobby Brown. I still use Bobby Brown brushes. I'm kind of a little bit a bit of a makeup slut, I guess. Like I used all kinds of different Mac had a moment for a while in high school. Yes. I really well, I used their nail polish. I had like a black gray nail polish that I used. Emo, you did? Oh. I mostly used it on my toes. Black. Like gross. It was like a gunmetal, like gray. And I was like, this. I bought it when I was in Milan, and I thought I was very, very cool. You are. I don't think so. But also, I was in Ohio. It's not like anyone ever saw my feet. I was like, this is a waste of time. But wait, shoot, what was oh, so I have a like Bobby Brown brushes. I have a Bobby Brown like cream stick eyeshadow that I love. Oh, yeah. But I love Smashbox has an always sharp eyeliner. And that is your go-to, right? If you're going out. If I'm putting makeup on eyeliner, is uh is a big one.
SPEAKER_02But you don't wear like a heavy eyeliner.
SPEAKER_01No. It looks very natural. It's just to be like, oh, there's my eyelid.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm not looking, and there's no cat eye or anything fancy.
SPEAKER_02My girls have probably more makeup products than I do.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. But is there makeup or is it skincare? Both.
SPEAKER_02Both. They do like, they can do like a shiny highlight of like dewy and the cheekbones, which I did read is phasing out with because I look sweaty when I try and do that.
SPEAKER_01I never even tried. But they know what they're doing. Yeah. And what did they learn it from? TikTok? Probably. Yeah. Not me. Have you taken them like to get makeup done or they already have all the stuff? They just they just know.
SPEAKER_02Do I wonder now, because social media is like at their fingertips to watch things. That's how they're they used to have this James Charles palette. Do you remember that thing?
SPEAKER_01Was that like, Are you a summer? Are you a fall?
SPEAKER_02It was like the size of my MacBook. All those colors. Yes. Yes.
SPEAKER_01That was a thing for I would let because Rose would be like, Can I put makeup on? And like when she was little, like five. And I had like a thing of four eyeshadows that was like a free gift from Clinique. Remember what a big deal those were? Yes. Free gift from Clinique. And I was like, here, you can use the white one. So she would just use white eyeshadow, which couldn't even really see on her skin. And she was like, ooh. How do you store your makeup? In a bag? In a bag. Yeah. Like a makeup bag. Yeah. A Target bag? My sister had got me this really cute like camouflage one. It's like purple and green camouflage that I really, really like that I use. But I'm a big tinted moisturizer fan. You are? Because I don't use foundation either. But I really like because it has an SPF in it. And I mix two together. Oh. To find your perfect shade. Oh in it. So I use like a tinted moisturizer and then a little. It's kind of like a baby Guinness. It's like two-thirds tinted moisturizer, one-third little illuminator. I should probably use one of those. And I mixed it up. I don't use anything. Your skin looked great. And you're also tan and like your skin is, I just feel like I look blotchy. Well, maybe the freckles.
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_01You don't want to cover those up. No, but I would like something. I don't know. I think I should go get my makeup done. That would be fun. Just I told you I did that with Bobby Brown. Oh, yeah. And then you have that. That's a disaster. It was a gazillion dollars. It was a gazillion dollars. And I looked like my face was melting. It was not great. But I did remember when I had my little eye situation? Yes. How could we not? Well, the up the ophthalmologist was crabby, but she gave me a fantastic recommendation for eye makeup remover. And what is it? Because I do use eyeliner. She's like, you have to do a better job of getting it off. And I love this. It's called optase. And it's kind of like a what is it called? My cellular water. But it's got a little bit, it's eye doctor approved and it's no preservatives. It is ionized water, but it removes eyeliner like perfectly. Oh. I love this stuff. Where did you fit this stuff? I bought it off Amazon. And it doesn't irritate my eyes. It feels like water, but it really, really works. Like I love this stuff. That's good to know. So highly recommend that. But who have you ever heard of the musical War Paint? No. Okay. So it is based off the book War Paint about Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein, oh, who were rival cosmetic ladies. You've seen it guessing? I haven't seen it. My mom saw it, but I've heard some of the music from it, and it's really interesting. But I thought I would like to read the book. I think the book would be really interesting just about these two women who I mean because Elizabeth Arden is still going strong, like that's a spa still. Yeah, I think they have one in Chicago. I know they have like the red doors spa salon or spa, whatever. But Helena Rubinstein had a quote there are no ugly women, only lazy ones. Oh my god. I was like, that was only something you could say in the 40s. Holy can't say that now. I have a dear friend whose mom says never leave the house without lipstick.
SPEAKER_00Really? My sister and my mom are lipstick people. Yeah. And my grandma was too. I'm bad at putting it on.
SPEAKER_01Just have a gloss. I like the little Laneige. I do too. I've got one. I like this one. Summer Fridays. Hello, guy. That's fine. Oh, that's the brand? Yeah. See, I just have chapstick. Always, always, always. But I do have a lip gloss in my other verse.
SPEAKER_02Would you believe that lipstick came from crushed gemstones back in the day? Really? Did you know that? Yeah, that's how lipstick originated.
SPEAKER_01Well, because I know the Egyptians were they had a lip. This is crushing. Yeah, that is crushing. Yeah, your knuckles are really going for it.
SPEAKER_02I would have liked to crush gemstones and decorate my lips. That'd be way more fun.
SPEAKER_01If you want to crush them, I'd I'd want to wear them. Fair. Or did they have like a grill? Or just like spark? Well, because the Egyptians were kind of the first culture to really do it. But in you know, that kind of signature Egyptian black coal eye makeup, they did it not only to look good, but to protect their eyes from the sun. So kind of like eye black for sports. Yeah. Which was and to deter flies. Flies. I guess maybe the flies were like didn't like the black. Maybe. But could you imagine like be like, oh my god, I don't have flies flying in my eyes now because I have all this black. I think I'd I don't know what you I'd rather have. I think I'd rather the eye makeup. So long as I can get it off, but they didn't used to take their makeup off. Probably not. So do you realize the average woman, 20 to 40 products, but they only use a handful per day? I believe that. Is that perfect for you? So many things. Like free samples or other things, and or that I'm like, oh, I think I'll use this, but then I don't. I would say I'm right on there, 20 to 40, but I only use it. I have like my core four kind of. Yeah. Is it mascara, lipstick? No, I concealer, tinted moisturizer, eyeliner, blush. And what is your kind of do you have like a a three or top three, top four? Mascara and lip gloss. Lip gloss. Yeah. I should be better, but but I don't think more is necessarily better, right? I guess not. The trend for 2026 though. Oh.
SPEAKER_02Is is polish without being overdone. Oh, I like that. So it's blended butt blush, smoky liner, feathered lips, which I didn't have a chance to look up. I feel like that'd be uncomfortable. Yeah. But the butter skin is back, smooth, not shiny.
SPEAKER_01Hydrated doing like, but not shiny. But not shiny, yeah. And also the nail trend is Nakey pie. Nake pie nails, which I'm like, perfect night on trend. I don't know. I mean, I think if if you want to wear makeup, go for it. My aunt-in-law, Al's aunt, had some of her makeup tattooed on she did. Yeah. Her eyebrows, I think like lipstick, some eyeliner. But she always looked fabulous.
SPEAKER_02There's some people that I've only seen with makeup on.
SPEAKER_01Right? There's some people, yeah. Yeah. It's interesting. And good for I mean, it's just, I love those days where I don't have it on and I'm just like, oh, clean. Yeah, I think I'm one of those people where if I'm out, I don't look like I don't know. Same. I probably am dressed nicer, but you get what you get.
SPEAKER_02I think people would be This is as good as it gets. People would be more apt to say, oh my gosh, Nora's wearing makeup, versus oh my gosh, Nora's no. I saw Nora Westfall at the store with no makeup. No, that's part of the question.
SPEAKER_01They feel like she didn't have pearls on. Let's go. Oh, there you go. Everybody's got a thing.
Highs And Lows Plus What We’re Watching
SPEAKER_02Should we launch into Heisenlo? Yes, we should. My low is my strap.
SPEAKER_01Oh that stinks. So I have been looking forward to reading the book Hamnet. Oh, yeah, you've talked about this for months. Did I talk about it last week? Well, maybe not last week, but you talked about it a couple weeks ago. And I that I wanted to read. Yeah. Well, I've started. It's not great. Like super depressing. Well, not yet. Well, it's yeah, it is, I guess it is, because they're talking about how the play has arrived. But I love I feel like maybe now I did I talk about this two weeks ago or with Annabelle that I didn't like it. Not with her, but I just I'm I love Shakespeare and I like those plays and I like reading them. And I'm but this is not written like Shakespeare, which is fine, but it's very confusing. It's very switchy back and forth, like from different people's perspective and like back and forth in time. And I don't do all the books. I'm having a hard time. Um and they don't they never call him Shakespeare. They're always like the poet, the poet. And I'm like, don't call him Shakespeare.
unknownCome on.
SPEAKER_01It's like you don't say you went to Yale, you went to school in New Haven. I'm like, yeah, we went to Yale. Just say it. Anyways, but I I'm determined to finish the book because I really want to see the movie, but just see the movie. I was so excited to read this book. Read something fun and happy. It's summer.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01But I I'm I'm gonna finish it. You are? Yeah, I'm gonna try to finish up tonight. Because I wanna I don't want to watch the movie until I read the book. Okay, that's fair. You know what I'm watching? What? The Five Star Weekend?
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01Is that with Jennifer Garner? Yes, I love her. Have you watched Widow's Bay? No, I don't know Widow's Bay. Okay. My brother said to watch it. It's scary. Oh no. Okay. But you like five. It's Five Star Girls Weekend? Five Star The Five Star Weekend. Five Star Weekend. Okay. Yeah, it's sad though. Isn't her husband dead? Yes. But at the very beginning. Yeah, okay. It's great. It's a great storm. From there? Yes. Her husband's dead, but it's really great. It worked out for everybody.
SPEAKER_02It's totally fine. Everything's fine. What about your high? My high was I was in Long Beach last week. It was just a quick trip, but I had dinner with my parents and the kids. It was nice to just catch up and be there and visit. And I didn't have late summer. Yeah, I didn't have the big kids.
SPEAKER_01I just had the little kids. Which that happens, you know. That's nice. Um yeah, it was nice to catch up with everybody. How about you? Well, I have two. One is that I went to Gasco the spa, so it was really nice. And then the other two, I've had really nice random, like bumping into people. My cousin texted me on Friday night and she was at a restaurant in town, and she's like, Any chance you're free and you come eat for a drink? And I haven't seen her in ages. So that was really nice. And then today at the mall, I was at Athletta and I saw my best friend from growing up and from high school. You did? Who lives in our town? And we were like, How do we never see each other? Our birthdays are a week apart. It was so nice to see her and see her girls and her husband. So we're gonna try to get together. Do you stay in touch with her via text or a little bit, not as much as I would like. So it was really, really good to see her. Oh, fun. Yeah. And I was like, keep an eye out for my friend who's gonna be teaching at Central. She teaches at a local. Nice. Okay. And so yeah, it was so nice to see my cousin and my friend.
SPEAKER_02Nice. Felt good. It's a good way to end.
See You Next Week
SPEAKER_02All right. Well, guess we'll see you back here next week. Bye. Bye.
