School is back, the alarms are brutal, and we’re trying to remember how we used to do this every day. We talk through the real back-to-school reset: forcing kids to go to bed, dragging them up in the morning, and realizing that even when we miss summer flexibility, our kids actually do better with structure.
Because our brains are clearly still in summer mode, we also detour into the funniest, strangest headlines we can’t stop thinking about: two guys surviving five days at sea while floating in a fishing cooler, an Annapolis sock burning festival to declare winter over, a Rhode Island squid spill that turns a roadway into a “squidpocalypse,” and a German sheep that somehow ends up on a bus and through a car wash. It’s light, it’s weird, and it’s exactly the kind of laughter we need during week one.
We close with highs and lows that every parent will recognize: miscommunications that turn pickups into a panic, the kindness of families who step in without judging, and the quiet wins that matter most. One of our favorite moments is a first big concert with a little girl at the United Center to see Kasey Musgraves, keeping it simple because the thing is the thing. If you’re juggling school mornings, family schedules, and the mental load, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs a laugh, and leave a review so more listeners can find us.

SJC Fest Catch-Up And Certifications
SPEAKER_01Hi, thanks for joining us today. It's Nora. And Nora, it's been a minute. It's been a minute. That's what happens during first day of school and SJC Fest and all the things. I know. It's all good things, but it's still things. And you get the gold star.
unknownWhy?
SPEAKER_01You volunteered at SJC Fest. And I did not renew my certification. I know. I am a Bassett certified alcohol provider. You are not a bartender. Somebody, uh, because I said I oh I have my bartending license, and they thought I meant that I like I took a bartending class that I knew how to make cocktails. That was me when we signed up, remember? Oh, you thought we were gonna look at it. I thought we were gonna be bartenders. No, it's just that I know the laws that I should not serve people who are overserved. And it was funny because the guy in charge stopped me and asked me to change my shift when in fact I had gotten that email and didn't up my certification. I will for next year. Yay! And I thought I was like, I kind of wanted to tell him like that won't work. I cancel because he thought I was you.
SPEAKER_00He had his noras confused.
SPEAKER_01And I was like, if I cancel your shift, we could really have ourselves the time. Oh my god. I really enjoy doing it though. It's fun. I enjoy doing it because it keeps me honest and it allows me to see people without going off the rails with random small toss. I am somebody who often I feel like overstays their welcome. No, I wouldn't say overstays your welcome, because in the same family as we are of over talkers, fill the void. Yeah. We don't overstay our welcome. We fill the silence. We fill the silence. And what's great is if I feel like I'm like, oh no, this is I'm nonsense talking. I'm like, oh, someone needs a drink. I must go. And I don't feel like I'm being rude because I have a job to do. And people appreciate that and recognize that. I hope so. But it is really fun. Please do it with me next year. I will. I just have to like recertify. And by re-certify, I mean to the end. Yeah. You know what I like to do? I like to test my common sense.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And often you're rewarded. I like to say, I'm not like, I don't want to like jump the gun. I just want to say, like, do I have any common sense? I do. I think you're talk to me about something. Okay. We
Back-To-School Routines And Homework Rants
SPEAKER_01went from footloose and fancy free all summer. Yep. How do you do with the routine switch? You know what? And I I kind of was reminded of this.
SPEAKER_00I think we were ready.
SPEAKER_01You know, spoiler, it's my thorn.
SPEAKER_00I hate forcing people to go to bed and to wake people up in the morning. But I think my kids needed the structure. I think they also needed time away from each other.
SPEAKER_01Kids drive on structure. They needed their own stuff. You know, like they needed to go to their in their own spaces. In their own spaces. And so I I think we were all ready for that.
SPEAKER_00But I I miss the flexibility and the ease of summer.
SPEAKER_01I'm torn because before kids, the first day of school was always my favorite day. Oh, when you were a teacher. When I was a teacher, when I was a kid. Oh, yes. I mean the jan sports, the sharp pencils. The La Sports. Oh, yes, with the Sam. Yay! Oh my God. Pencils, pens, highlighters, yes. I guess. Charlie Hoover worked for my dad and he had a Sam's Club membership, which was like damn. Damn Sam. That's funny. And there was a Sam's Club in Beverly on gosh, I'm trying to think, 95th and Western. Okay. Before you got to Rainbow Cone. And it was like, I know exactly where you're talking. Yes, yes, yes, yes. My mom could not be bothered by a warehouse membership. Sure. She was busy otherwise. Yeah. God bless her. And everything bulk is not her jam. No, she was like waiting for the fruit man that drove by in the truck on Tuesdays. So we bamboozled Chuck Hoover, Charlie Hoover, to pick us up and drive us to Sam's Gold Studio. And ship Jane Knitendorf. Of course. Of course. Because word on the street was they had like this giant like pack of big pens and pencils and highlighters and mechanical pencils and like all the things. We couldn't get in. We didn't need Chuck Hoover to pay for us. We needed him to get us. Yeah. So I loved the first day of school until I had kids. And then once I had kids, I was like, I don't want to send you back.
SPEAKER_00I know.
SPEAKER_01I I wish I could send them back, and school started at 10 o'clock and there was no homework. Move to Denmark. Oh, okay. And Legos. I could work for Lego. Yeah. And go to Denmark. You know how I feel about homework.
SPEAKER_00I know.
SPEAKER_01Bring me the research that says it helps our kids.
unknownThat's all.
SPEAKER_01And then I'll listen. I wish it would be like your homework is to talk to your parents about what we did in school today. I wish your homework was like read 30 minutes about anything you like. Yeah. Make that 30 minutes of reading something like relaxing.
SPEAKER_00I know.
SPEAKER_01And then do something nice. That would be nice. Yeah. Wait, also, I have to talk to you.
Two Men Survive Five Days At Sea
SPEAKER_01This is so random. Oh, good. I have a couple of random things. But I read the story about these two guys stuck at sea for five days. Did you read that? Mm-mm. And I think, like, who thinks like five days? Like, meh. That's a long time. They survived in a cool. Wait, what? They jumped in. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Why were they at sea in the first place? Well, they were going on a little fishing trip. Oh, so they were in the room. They were like, no, they were 24 and 53. I don't know if it was an uncle and a nephew. Nephew or a dad and a son. I should have read more closely. However, they left in a just like off sea on a fishing excursion. And their boat, because of the rain and because of high winds, cat size. Oh no. They jumped in their cooler. What's a giant turquoise fishing cooler? Oh, like a cooler for the fish. They must be serious fish. I'm thinking of like a like, oh, sorry, no, no, no. They were Coleman. Cooler. I was like, These are teeny tiny men. They're they're literally a little guy. What are they doing? Do you know little guys do? Jenny King, I'm like, you'd have like a 24-pack or two grown men. No, this cooler was reserved for the fish that they caught. Okay. So they left off, and I don't know, I can't, I don't know if I'm pronouncing it properly, but the Chipacas. I'm not sure. It's off the coast of Mexico. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And they were found five days later floating around 150 miles away from where they were in this cooler. And I was like, 150 miles five days later, like, meh.
SPEAKER_01That's so far. But then I paused and I was like, that's an entire school week. And with like no interruption. And I Googled how far 150 miles was. It's from New York to Boston or from Los Angeles to San Diego. Like I couldn't- Like from Chicago to Notre Dame is about 90 miles. Yeah, like I couldn't wrap my head around it because it seemed so like minimal. Like if I was like, oh, I took a cooler, a rolling, like a scooter of humans to Notre Dame. Yeah, a two and a half hour drive. But they survived, and miraculously, when they were found, they're like, these guys are in remarkable condition.
SPEAKER_02They're a little dehydrated, but that's it.
SPEAKER_01No food, no water.
unknownDang.
SPEAKER_01Makes me wonder what they were eating before they capsided. Right? But isn't this? Liquid IV? Wow. I know. You know what that doesn't make me want to do? What? Go fishing. Well, you know what it did make me do? Deep dive about. Oh my god, this is one Nora and a mic, but I have another show. No, no, no, no. Let's talk. Do you want to talk? I have a fishy story, but I want to talk about this. Do you do have a fishy story? I do have a fishy story.
SPEAKER_02So I can't wait. Tell us.
SPEAKER_01Mine stinks, though. Go ahead. Do yours too. Does yours have to talk about the sock
Sock Burning And The Squid Spill
SPEAKER_01burning fest? No! What? Sock burn? Why are we burning socks? I love socks. These boaters and sailors in residence in Annapolis, Maryland, each spring strip off their socks and throw them directly into a bonfire. Poor Kay. Because they want to like be done with the cold weather.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01So it started. They used to recite a traditional poem.
SPEAKER_00We could do that.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know. Do you want to tr recite a traditional poem? Swear a lighthearted oath to like completely abandon socks for the next X amount of months. Okay. Because we are only wearing flip-flops and boat shoes until the cold wind weather comes back. Do you want to do that? I mean, I don't know. Bob Turner.
SPEAKER_00I mean, out of all the things to burn, socks would probably be the easiest.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Bob Turner in the 80s, he was done with the winter. Oh. So he was like, I'm gonna throw my socks, grab a beer, and I'm not wearing anything but boat shoes or flippy. I would rather like burn a swimsuit and be like, give me my sweater. So you're like fur. You wouldn't have a pool or obviously nobody tank tops and put on a nice sweater. It's funny because you're wearing a tank top. I I know I'm in my romper today. Are you connected? I am connected. Stop! I love this romper. I didn't know that was a romper. Yeah. I already bought one romper you have. This is one of my faves. Can I copy another? Yeah, sure. You go for it. I'm I'm happy.
SPEAKER_00I take that as a compliment.
SPEAKER_01You're a very stylish. Is that one from this is the same brand. It is? Yeah, Nordstrom's. Yeah. This is my and my outfit I wore at SJC Fest. That whole my green outfit. You were a lot more composed at SJC Fest than I was. Oh.
SPEAKER_00Can I tell you my fishy story?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I mean, heck, it's a fishy podcast. Do you do you like calamari? I do. I mean, tried calamari. I did, but we're 17 minutes in, and I'm the only one talking.
SPEAKER_00So well, it is a podcast. It'd be weird if you didn't. There was a squid pocalypse in Rhode Island. So a truck carrying raw squid that was on its way to being calamari. No, the trailer part of the truck disconnected from the cab, and the trailer fell over. And in Rhode Island, it was just squid in the middle of the road for from 9:27 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
SPEAKER_01Wait, say that again ready. So 10, 11. So from 9 to 5? From 9 to 5. We had squid the crosswalk. It was really smelly. It was not great. Oh, sorry. Sorry, sorry. So for eight hours, it had this raw squid just in the hot sun. Why did it take so long? I don't know. To pick up all those slime balls. Oh, do you know how bad that must have smelled? Don't kids need service hours in Rhode Island?
unknownYes.
SPEAKER_01It's like, oh my god, it's so disgusting. Can we go to that region? To Rhode Island? Love Rhode Island.
SPEAKER_02I've never been to Rhode Island. I've never been to Maine. I've never been to Nantes. Seriously? I'm an Arizona girl.
SPEAKER_01Let's go. I would you would love Newport so much. If you know who else wants to go? Who? Sheila. Yes, let's do it. That's Nora's mom. BTW. BGW just said Noreen's all in. I forgot we were recording. So I told you my mom wanted me to go to Salve Regina. Oh, I have a great friend, Sarah Fitzgerald, who went there. Which is a college in Newport, Rhode Island, and it was an all-girls university. I would have been one of the first co-ed classes, but all of your dorms are in these old mansions. Wait, Sarah Fitzgerald, my good friend. I wonder Gilded Age Mansion. I wonder if she's listening. She lives in Mount Greenwood. Oh. Well, maybe they're allowed to listen to our podcast. They're allowed. I just hope she does. Totally. But it's beautiful. Let's go. Let's
Why Booking Trips Feels So Hard
SPEAKER_01go. We do that. Well, you kind of take a trip. You so you kind of were like meh on it because you said it was hard to get to.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think as a eight 17-year-old, because I didn't turn 18 until my freshman year of college.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00So I think as a 17-year-old, I was like, wait, I'm the first class of co-ed. Not that I was like, I need all the boys here, but I didn't want to.
SPEAKER_01True. I wanted it to be a little bit more equal. Also, Jen Brigham. Also, Jen Brigham, a good friend of the podcast, wants to celebrate her 50th because she's a 4th of July, baby. Get out of here. We should go visit Sam at NYU. Do we have two trips up our sleeve already? We do. And why I feel like this is a female problem. I feel like women have a hard time booking and scheduling trips. Yeah, that happens when you have four kids in travel sports. I know, but I feel like men have an easier time scheduling things like this. You find that in my personal experience, it's tricky for me because Ryan and I window into our world listeners. Yes. Have a very like old-fashioned relationship where I am always home and always minding the children. Yeah. And always making sure there is a hot dinner and then a cold drink when everyone walks in. And he is in charge of making sure everything on the other side is taken care of. So there's never really any like room for me to schedule stuff. Yeah. So it's never even on my reader. I know. But if I did scoot out, he's also the one who does all our scheduling. Oh, see, that's nice. It wouldn't really much matter if I left. I spent a hour today writing down schedules. Yeah, because he's the one in charge of the schedule. All right, let's go. So if I told him I was leaving, he would fill in the blanks. Alright. I don't know why I'm whispering. Our husbands don't listen. No, they don't. Where are we gonna go? I would love to take you to Newport. You would love it. Okay. Let's go. Great. Because that was also Annabelle's inspiration for Dolly all the time. Oh my gosh, we can we bring Jen. Yes. Can she please meet us? Yeah, and Annabelle. All right, fine.
SPEAKER_02I mean, like, choice us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right. You're not that far away. Okay, one more random thing. You and
German Sheep Takes A Bus Car Wash
SPEAKER_01I love a car wash.
SPEAKER_00We do love a car wash. I do love a car wash. Yeah. Because our cars being clean is important to us. I don't like a dirty car.
SPEAKER_01I would rather a clean car than clean house.
SPEAKER_00Interesting.
SPEAKER_01Actually, I'd like both.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, both. So in Germany, a sheep escaped its flock.
SPEAKER_01Like in actual? In actual sheep. It got on a bus. Is that how sheepwalk? This is how sheepwalk. Nobody noticed a sheep got on a bus.
SPEAKER_00And then the driver was like, oh, there's a sheep on my bus. And then he got the bus washed. And the sheep was on the bus in the car washer.
SPEAKER_01And the sheep had the best day. And there's a whole Instagram video. Like, listeners, honestly, Google German sheep in the garage. We have it. It made me so happy. This sheep is just curled up on this little seat on this German bus. I don't even know what the Germans are saying. Because there's like a lot overstand. Yes. But I love. Wait, hold on. So is your story that the bus is clean? Or is your story that there was a sheep on the bus? Well, it's both. I love.
SPEAKER_02Why did the bus driver have a sheep on the bus and is like, I'm going to go in the car wash?
SPEAKER_01So I have a lot of questions here.
SPEAKER_02Because if I got if a sheep jumped on my bus, I wouldn't be like, I'm going to a car wash. I'd be like, I'm going to get the sheep off the bus.
SPEAKER_01That's what makes it. But maybe this kind of sheep's. I don't know. And like getting your bus wash doesn't keep the inside of your sheep bus clean. It makes sense. Was he trying to scare the sheep? No, I think he didn't want to disrupt the sheep because he saw. So he was like, let me like take you to the scariest place ever. I think this is sheep tracking. Sheep track. That was bad. Oh my God. Nora Taylor. We had to take a little what isn't it? Our children had themselves the first week back, and clearly so did we. We spent our entire catch up catching up. It
Bookmarking The Topic And Sponsor Break
SPEAKER_01has taken us over three hours to record a 30-minute book. And to our listeners, our catch up typically lasts 12 minutes.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_01Is that right? Yeah, and I think it's only fair to our listeners if we just bookmark our topic. Okay. Which is rides. That's true. And and by rides, we mean amusement parks. Yes. And we had some lovely special guests with the best of intentions to talk about amusement parks. Yes, but we got caught up in sheep and car washes and fishermen. Sock burning. All kinds of things. There was just things to talk about. So what do we say? Okay. Let's just put it on the table. Let's check in with our sponsor. Yes. And then check in with our sponsor and come back. And then we're gonna high and low. Let's go. So good to see you. I feel like I haven't seen you in ages. Oh my gosh. Yesterday I was in Oakland. I got myself in quite a pickle. Oh, you know how I feel about pickles. And I have to tell you, I had the greatest service at my Caggerty Buick GMC. I left in a new car. Get out of town. I was in and out in a couple hours. I got all set up in a brand new 2026 Acadia. I got a chance to look at the Yukon, the Yukon XL. I checked out the terrain. For a moment, I thought maybe I was Hummer EV material, but they talked some sense into me. And in no time, I was locked and loaded. Were you able to get it with all the features you wanted? They had everything available right on the lot. It was no trouble at all. And now I'm living large in my brand new car. Oh, and it's got that new car smell. New cars. Well, I'm telling you, if you're in the market for a new car, head on down to 93rd and Cicero.
SPEAKER_02And if you do, just tell them Nora sent you.
SPEAKER_01And now that's the show.
Highs And Lows Of School Week One
SPEAKER_01All right. So we've already told you we're not going into our topic, but we're gonna high and low. You think we should just go straight? Yeah. High low? High low. What's your low? Wait, you think we put our topic? Yeah. We put our topic in our back pocket and we're gonna pull her out next week.
SPEAKER_00Hello. Hello. And Milo is waking all my kids up for school. Nora. It's it's my fault because I am not a morning person. Is Al? Yes. But you know what Al does? He wakes up early and works out, or he goes on a run with my podcast co-host.
SPEAKER_01Just blame me. That's once a week. And did that dog bark on that?
SPEAKER_00Shh. You're fine, Wilma. My kids cannot wake up for school.
SPEAKER_01Wait, let's pause on that because I have a great gal who you know. Claire well. She's incredible. And she's training for Berlin. And do you know my sister's gonna be in Berlin when she's running? Stop that. Yes. She is? Yes. So I'm training with Claire. But I'm not running Berlin. And her husband, God bless him, calls me the homewrecker. Because I'll take the long runs and all the trainings, I'm just not doing the actual run.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's not my love. Being called a homewrecker is not my love. My low is that after all the nonsense of getting our kiddos ready for our first away game against IC, is that our waist section had three wasps in the world.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, Nora.
SPEAKER_01That I had to And you got stung! Well, it's not that I had to crush the wasp fest, I just had to alert the authorities. And in the meantime, I got stung. Oh and that hurts. Rory. Oh I get it. Yes. That's trouble. Oh, no. But they went and sprayed the wasp in the wasp. That's hard to say. It is. Waspori? Nest for anyone. Oh no, nobody got sprayed for us last night. They didn't spray the nest? No, they said thank you for letting us know. Oh, that's a BS response to we're not doing anything. I said, that's a tricky response because you're gonna get yourselves in some trouble. Shoot. So they brought some tarps. Tarp is also a tarp. TARP? Like a tarp? T-A-R-P?
unknownTarp?
SPEAKER_01To cover the nest? Yes. Well no, that just makes them more mad. They brought three tarps. Three tarps to make them more. Three nests. Wait, but that just made more. Is that a joke? Wait, that's insane. That is not a solution. The three tarps covered the three wasps. But that's not a solution. Well, that was I see solution, and they were lovely.
SPEAKER_00But ineffective.
SPEAKER_01As effective as a big thing.
SPEAKER_00That is like literally sweeping it under the rug.
SPEAKER_01That's putting it under the tarp. Right. I don't know. So beware, people of Elmhurst, you're gonna get stung. People step back and nobody else got stung. I don't know. I'm not a bee girl. Oh my god. I'm gonna ask my brother-in-law. He has beehives. Is he going there? No, he lives in Long Island. Beware. Beware. But he keeps bees. He has a bee suit. He who is Steve Taylor. Bees a bee beekeeper. Legit. He's a beekeeper. This might be a world record snort. Um can we tell our listeners the snort? I know where the snort comes from. It makes me so happy.
SPEAKER_02The snort is not like I'm laughing so hard.
SPEAKER_01I snort. No. The snort is that there's I thought it was me. The snort is that there's so much silliness and laughter that I'm trying to contain. That oops. Oops, it oops. A giggle comes out and then the snort.
SPEAKER_00Oh. What's your high? Okay.
A First Big Concert With Your Kid
SPEAKER_00My high is I brought my baby girl, my eight-year-old, to a concert. And I think this was my high back in May when I told her I was taking her to a concert. And she burst out into tears. Remember, I told you, I was like, oh Rose, I got tickets to Casey Musgraves. And she burst out into tears because she was so happy about it.
SPEAKER_01So time moves fast. We went to the United Center. And you know what was great? Like, I've been to a lot of concerts where you're like, we need to pre-ame, we need a party bus, we need a limo. And you're like, oh, this seems like a lot. Where the the event is the concert. And that's where you always get me. Because in my mind, if we're taking our children to something, we don't need to pre- any. We don't need to any anything. There's no pre-anything. No, the party is the thing. Yes.
SPEAKER_00And so Al kept saying, like, oh, are you going with friends? Are you going with other people?
SPEAKER_01And I was like, no, I kind of just want to do this with Rose. Number one, she's eight years old. Eight. Number two, our boys have never been to a concert. In their actual in their actual life. And I was like, I don't want it to be a big thing. I don't want it to be about a pre or a post or a party bus. I just want her to go. The thing is the thing. A concert is overwhelming enough.
SPEAKER_00Like, that's all there needs to be.
SPEAKER_01I drove. Don't you think the thing is the thing?
SPEAKER_00The thing is the thing. We should make t-shirts, two nours and a mic. The thing is the thing. So she and I went, we drove in my minivan. We went. And it's also like her.
SPEAKER_02Her name is Muffin Listener.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Love Muffin. She did great. We got there and Rose walked in and she like we were holding hands and she just was like tight. Because then I realized she's only ever been to plays or ballets, things where you go in and it's quiet when you sit down and watch.
SPEAKER_01When you told me this, I was able to identify because when I brought Elle and our dear friend brought their girls, they were in eighth grade. Yeah. And it was the same response. It was like, where's mom? Yeah. Let's go. Because a concert is rowdy. It's big. You see a movie, you see a play, you see it's you like you dress up, you behave, you you're quiet, and you sit there and you're an observer. But don't you love for you and for me and the other moms I was with that our sweet baby girls had us. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That we didn't launch them to their first content.
SPEAKER_01Or like go to Lala Boy. With the group. Well, we'll talk about that later. That's a different podcast. But not her, that wasn't her first. No, but she was overwhelmed by it. Yeah. After day two. But it was perfect. Like we got there, we had chicken fingers, we had a table, and got like a diet center. Yeah. Oh, so you had good chicken tenders. Oh, those chicken tenders, what is it? What is it? Is it just because your expectations are low? Or are they that? Wait, did you get Coco Pepsi or did you get shut the drink?
SPEAKER_00But they only have Pepsi.
SPEAKER_01So you got a beer, I hope. No, because I was I didn't want to get a beer with rolls. I'm I was like, this is not a beer event.
SPEAKER_02That has a Pepsi event when we were with I was like, I don't need a beer. For Megan Moroni.
SPEAKER_01And I ended up and because it was a Pepsi. It's a Pepsi spot. I did get a Chardonnay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then I went back for ice in my glass because I didn't want my girls to think like I was getting boozy with them. Right. I was like, but I also didn't want to drink a Pepsi barf. I know. Clearly not sponsored by them. Do you yeah, it was the concert. Oh and so we had the best time. She got tired at the end. Yes.
SPEAKER_00But she sat on my it was perfect, Nora, because I had like an older couple in front of me, and they sat down for most of the time. And behind me was a mom with two daughters. So Rose and I sat. Don't you think Rose and I were able to sit because the people in front of us sat. And then the mom behind me was able to sit with her girls because we sat. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And it and Rose sat on my lap and we just listened to music that we loved live by this by Casey Musgraves, who we love. And it was it was awesome. I love Casey Musgraves and I love concerts that are not intentionally, but happen to be geared to moms and girls because that happened to this with Megan Moroni. Yeah. And she is like, love is love. Be who you are. Yeah. Like, let's just be kind. Yeah. And it was awesome. She was great. And I do love her. I wish I could have taken the girls. I ended up taking them to Megan Moroni. Oh. Which had this thing, well, same kind of vibe. Like we I should have taken Mike. But what about your high? Oh, my high was, well, it's kind of a it scrambled. Okay.
Carpool Chaos And The Grace Of A Village
SPEAKER_01So my another low was there was a miscommunication where I told my son he was being picked up by somebody, and my husband, who he was being picked up by somebody else. Oh shit. It was a dumpster fire. But my high was when I brought donuts to one of the families that I screwed up the car pool with. It's like, don't even worry. My mom dropped me off at a pool party in fifth grade at the wrong pool and left. And for two and a half hours, I just swam in a pool with people I didn't know. And when she picked me up, I jumped in the car and we carried on. You know, that was the beauty of the 90s. And I said to Dave Figus, God bless the Figus family. They are like the most lovely family of the whole time. Really are the best. Like top one family. Top one percent again. Top one percent. Just like part of me was like, ugh, that's bad because Dave still remembers this. But the other part of me was like, Dave's killing it. Dave is killing it. So my high is that he was able to recognize that my boy kind of got lost in the wild on my behalf. And he didn't judge. He gave me the grace I needed. Do you know the figuses saved my butt this week, too? What? Yes. No, because on Thursday night, somebody was like, oh, who's gonna pick up the boys from football?
SPEAKER_00And I was like, I can do it. And then I got sidetracked at my aunt and uncle's house. And then I forgot, enwrapped in my own stuff, and I forgot I was supposed to pick up our children.
SPEAKER_01Fake some. Dave and Kathy Figgas, there are angels. Saints and angels among us. They really are. Are they the true version of it takes a village? They're just the kind people. And the true representation of like Catholic education is more than just writing a check. Yeah. Yeah. All right. How lucky are we to live in Springdale? We are so lucky. Should we just like call it a night? Yeah. But this is the thing. Like, you and I have been there for people when we've needed to support. It's hard to see that though. I mean, could could I look on an example where I was like, oh, I saved someone else?
SPEAKER_00No. But I am so grateful to the people who have supported and saved me when I've needed it.
SPEAKER_01It's so hard to say. How is it so easy to be like, there are 700 people that have saved me? And then when I go to look for people I've saved, it's I can't think of one. But that's so untrue, it's so skewed. Right. So I guess it's better. The truth is it all washes out. You know what I mean? Like it all comes out in the wash. And we're thankful to our listeners who are helpers. And we are thankful to our listeners who need help too. Yeah. Because we're kind of all in this together. We are. Yeah. We totally are. All right. So
